WHO HANDLES WHAT? Reporting a broken street light 💡

Is a street light out on your street?

Although residents often contact the Parish Council, street lighting maintenance and repairs are managed by Derbyshire County Council.

If you notice a faulty street light, the quickest way to get it fixed is to report it directly to Derbyshire County Council through their website here: derbyshire.gov.uk/transport-roads/roads-traffic/street-lighting/report-fault/report-a-street-light-fault.aspx

By reporting it straight to the responsible authority, you help ensure the issue is logged and dealt with as efficiently as possible.

Report a problem or fault with a street light, lamp, lit traffic sign or bollard, including emergency faults such as exposed cables.

WHO HANDLES WHAT? 🚧 Reporting a pothole.

Seen a pothole that needs attention?

While the Parish Council works hard to support our community, pothole repairs are the responsibility of Derbyshire County Council.

To report a pothole, simply use the online reporting portal here: derbyshire.gov.uk/transport-roads/roads-traffic/road-maintenance/potholes/potholes.aspx

Reporting it directly helps ensure the issue reaches the team responsible and can be assessed as quickly as possible.

We're responsible for the maintenance and repair of roads, including pavements or footways. You can report a pothole or another fault.

FINDERN'S PARTY IN THE PARK is just over a week away!

Findern’s Party in the Park will take place on Saturday, 11 July 2026 at Hillside Playing Field. Pack you picnic, chairs and your dancing shoes and join us for an evening of music with local duo, The Cover Halves,; all the 80s classics from Let's Eighties; and floor filling anthems from Half Cut Band. Doors open at 5.30pm and entertainment starts at 6pm through to 10.30pm.

May we remind visitors that BBQs cannot be used on the site.

Also, there will be no parking available on the site; you can drop off people and picnics at the entrance to Hillside playing field and then park on roads elsewhere; however, please be respectful of residents and do not block driveways or park on grass verges.

Although this is a free event, we will be selling tickets for a raffle to be drawn on the night for the Council’s charity for this civic year – Hannah's Hope, a local charity that supports teenagers during their cancer treatment. We hope you will support the raffle, please bring Cash, though we have a SumUp machine for card payments (hopefully if the technology works!)

Willington Scouts will be providing burgers, hot dogs and nachos food on their stall at the event; and also have a bar selling soft and alcoholic drinks. All profits from their stall will support their aim of building a new scout hut.

Lagans will also be there with their stall selling Indian wraps and street food.

NOTE: the event will go ahead even if England progresses in the World Cup tournament and ends up in the quarter final starting at 10pm on Saturday 11 July! We didn't see that one coming when we set the date for Party in the Park back in August last year! It is too short notice to have a giant screen showing the match, so we hope that you will stay with us at Party in the Park till the end, then rush home to watch the 2nd half of the game to see England win!!

The Parish Council is reaching out to local businesses and companies within the parish to ask for support with our community fundraising events, the first of which will be our Party in the Park event taking place on the evening of 11 July 2026.

As part of the event, we will be holding a raffle to raise funds for our chosen charity, and we are kindly asking for donations of raffle prizes from our local community businesses.

This year, we are proud to support Hannah’s Hope Charity, a small charity based at Mercia Marina in Willington. Hannah’s Hope Teenage Cancer Respite Retreat provides dedicated support to teenagers and young adults facing the unimaginable challenge of a cancer diagnosis.

For more information about the charity, please visit:
https://www.hannahs-hope.co.uk

Any support you can offer towards our fundraising efforts would be greatly appreciated. In return, we would be delighted to acknowledge and promote your business through our parish newsletter as a thank you for your generosity and community support.
