It starts with gathering as much as I can, often from public records like the General Register Office. And because I’m a registered adoption support agency, I can access certain adoption records too, to help search for people affected by adoption.

But the bit I really want you to know? Privacy means everything. I’d never get someone’s current name or address, or pass anyone’s details on, without their consent. Ever.

This isn’t about turning up on someone’s doorstep. It’s about doing it gently, safely, and with so much care for everyone involved. And being trusted to do that? The biggest privilege. 💛

Today feels like a significant day.

In my work, I support adoptees and birth parents to access their records, trace family members, and, where possible, support contact and reunion. Every week I see the lifelong impact that forced adoption, separation and secrecy can have on people.

Today’s apology doesn’t undo the past, but it does acknowledge that what happened was wrong. For many, that recognition will matter deeply.

My hope is that this apology is only the beginning. I hope it leads to better access to records, ongoing support, and funded trauma-informed therapy for everyone affected by adoption. That’s exactly why I founded No Shame Foundation to provide free therapy for adults affected by adoption, fostering and early life trauma.

One thing that really stood out to me today was hearing Sir Keir Starmer speak about removing the shame that so many people have carried for decades. It felt especially meaningful because that’s the very reason our charity is called No Shame Foundation.

To everyone affected, your story matters and your experiences deserve to be acknowledged. 💛

For those who don’t know me, here’s a little about who I am and the work I do.

I’m a qualified social worker. I’ve worked in domestic abuse and children’s services, and now I support adults through some of the most significant moments of their lives tracing, accessing records, and reconnecting with family.

I founded Adoption Finder Intermediary Service to support people with their journey.

I also founded No Shame Foundation a charity providing free therapy for adults affected by adoption, fostering and early life trauma in Wales. Because everyone deserves access to support, regardless of their background or their bank balance.

I was reflecting this week on how many people are carrying difficult things quietly.

The longer I’ve worked with people, the more I’ve realised how important it is for people to feel listened to, understood, and supported without judgement.

I think sometimes people don’t need someone to ‘fix’ everything for them.

They just need someone willing to truly listen 🤍
