This piece was created by one of our fostering families for The Fostering Network Foster Care Fortnight competition, themed “This is Fostering”. 💜

It’s not just artwork. It’s a snapshot of life in a fostering home, shaped by the people living it every day. 🏠

A reminder that fostering isn’t an idea, it’s lived experience, expressed here in colour, imagination, and feeling. 🥰

It all starts with a friendly conversation. 💜

🧶🩷 Knit & Natter 🩷🧶

We would like to say a huge THANK YOU to the wonderful Knit & Natter group who meet regularly at The Café & Gift Shop at Abakhan for your generosity, time, and incredible talent.

The beautiful blankets and cardigans you have lovingly created for our children looked after mean so much more than words can express. Each stitch carries warmth, care, and kindness, bringing comfort to children who truly need it.

Your dedication and compassion make a real difference, and we are so grateful for the thought and effort you put into every piece.

Thank you for supporting children within Foster Wales Conwy & Foster Wales Flintshire, for helping us wrap them in warmth, not just physically, but emotionally too.

For Foster Care Fortnight, we asked our local authority foster carers a simple question: What does fostering mean to you? 🧐

"This is Fostering. Day trips and holidays to the beach.” 💭

Fostering means something different to everyone. The small, everyday moments. The challenges. The routines that slowly start to feel like home. At its heart, it’s about being there for a child who needs stability, care and someone in their corner. 💜

Three Mockingbird hubs came together recently for a really special get-together. Families brought along rocks they’d collected from different places across Flintshire, and spent time decorating them together. It was simple, creative, and a lovely way to bring everyone together. There was plenty of pizza to go around too. 🎨💜

This event was part of the Mockingbird ‘Nest’ project with The Fostering Network, helping to strengthen the relationships that make our fostering community so supportive. 🧡

Days like this are what make Mockingbird so special. It’s not just about support when things are tough, it’s about building connections, sharing experiences, and creating a real sense of belonging for both carers and children. ✨🏠

If you live in Flintshire and want to find out more about Mockingbird or fostering with us, contact Foster Wales Flintshire and a member of our dedicated team will be in touch for a friendly, no-obligation conversation to help you decide if fostering is right for you. 💜

Tom knows what it’s like to grow up in care and how important it is to stay connected to your community. 💜

Today, he and his young family are opening their home to local children, offering short-term foster care that allows them to stay within their own community in Flintshire and experience that same sense of belonging. 🥰

As part of Foster Care Fortnight 2026, we’re launching a new series of Reels, bringing together voices from across North Wales to share real experiences of fostering. 📽🏠

Over the next two weeks, you’ll hear from local authority foster carers and members of our fostering teams as we challenge common myths and show what fostering really looks like in everyday life. 🥰

Because fostering isn’t one single story, one type of home, or one type of person or family.

Follow along as we shine a light on fostering across North Wales and meet some of the incredible people behind it. 💜

The first time a child laughs, opens up about their day, asks to watch a film; these are moments that many might take for granted, but for foster carers in Wales, they symbolise one thing, a breakthrough.

At Foster Wales Flintshire, we know those lasting bonds make all the difference. That’s why we’re revisiting one of our favourite stories, The Power of Relationships, which features words from foster carer Gavin and care leaver Kyle. 💜

It’s a reminder that fostering is about more than providing a home. It’s about connection, trust and knowing someone will always be there in your corner. ✨

In Kyle’s words, “today, I look at you as my dad.”

In Gavin's words, "“I equally see you like a son.”

This story beautifully captures how a strong relationship between a foster carer and a young person can last far beyond childhood, something we see so often in our local fostering community. 📖
