New dynamic play equipment for teenagers and toddlers has landed at Cheriton Recreation Ground 🙌

We've invested over £70,000 into 14 new pieces of apparatus to complement the existing offering on Stanley Road.

🤸 Somersault bars, a turbo carousel and a cliff rider are just some of the thrilling extras aimed at youngsters up to the age of 14.

Meanwhile, toddlers can now enjoy a seesaw, a sunflower-inspired swing and a tipi carousel – alongside upgraded imaginative play opportunities 🌻

Seabrook, Lydd and East Cliff play areas are up next! ⏭️

Have you visited the Changing Tides Coastal Centre in Greatstone this summer? There's still plenty of time to enjoy an ice cream by the shore 🏖️

🍦 Residents are making the most of their beach huts and enjoying delicious Reynolds Ice Cream, with nearby facilities and a newly remodelled car park available.

Exciting plans are also in place for a seasonal watersports centre, complete with showers, changing facilities, and an education and training room in the future!

Due to repeated anti-social behaviour and vandalism, we’ve had to make the decision to close the Le Quesne public toilets (North Road, Shorncliffe) at 4pm until further notice.

This is to reduce the risk of future incidents, which have been particularly taking place in the late afternoon and early evening.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause.

While the fireworks may have had to be cancelled, there's still plenty of fun lined up at this weekend's Sandgate Sea and Food Festival.

Unfortunately, due to the high winds forecast for tomorrow evening, we have had to make the difficult decision to cancel the fireworks display.

Safety has to come first, particularly with fireworks being launched from offshore and with our pop-up gazebos and other event infrastructure on site. We know many people will be disappointed, and we’re disappointed too, but we feel this is the responsible decision in the forecast conditions.

The good news is that the rest of the event (Saturday & Sunday) is still going ahead! 🎉

So please don’t pack away your plans just yet, come along and enjoy the evening with us. We’ve got fab music, entertainment, food, drinks and a great atmosphere planned, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone down on the seafront.

Thank you for your understanding, and we hope you’ll still join us for a fantastic evening! ❤️

Ahead of the bank holiday weekend, Cllr Jeremy Speakman wanted to thank our Veolia waste collection crews, who have been working tirelessly throughout the summer.

Despite warm weather and heavy footfall across our beaches, they’ve been on a constant mission to keep our coastline clean.

Thanks to increased collections, additional bulk and compactor bins, and support from residents and visitors, it’s been a successful season of working together to tackle litter and .

So, on behalf of the crews who will be back out again this weekend, we ask everyone heading to the coast to please put their rubbish in a bin or take it home with them if the bin is full 🚮

A message from Cllr Mike Blakemore, Cabinet Member for Community and Collaboration following the devastating flash flooding near the Nepal-Tibet border:

"The scale of yesterday's disaster is unimaginable. I know everyone in Folkestone, where so many Nepalese have made their home, will want to join me in sending our sympathy and support to everyone affected and to all those involved in the rescue and recovery operation.

"I have spoken with members of our Nepalese community in Cheriton, whose members are coming to terms with what has happened and seeking more information about who has been lost or injured to the devastating floods and mudslides.

"There is a real risk of further flooding, and we can only hope that this doesn't take place. I will be discussing fundraising for Nepal in the next few days and would love to hear from anyone willing to help with this."

While on their regular patrols along Mermaid Beach, our team found this poor baby seal washed ashore 🌊

🦭 Knowing we couldn't leave this poor pup abandoned, our officers contacted British Divers Marine Life Rescue and waited for them to arrive.

Though very underweight and dehydrated, he was taken to a seal rehabilitation centre, where he will begin his recovery before eventually being released back into the ocean.

📞 If you spot a seal washed ashore that looks like it might be in trouble, you can call the rescue hotline for advice ➡️ https://bdmlr.org.uk/what-to-do-if
