Non-Domestic Rates Bills were issued earlier this year, and we want to remind you about the new rates relief now in effect.

Businesses in retail and leisure could be eligible for up to 15% rates relief from their annual rates bill. This relief will be available for three years from 2026-27 to 2028-29.

Retail and Leisure Rates Relief – for businesses with a rateable value of up to and including £100,000 which operate in the following categories, may be eligible:

• bed and breakfast accommodation or guest house
• camping site
• caravan
• caravan site
• chalet, holiday hut and bothy
• self-catering holiday accommodation (short-term let licence is required)
• timeshare accommodation
• market (e.g. auction house)
• retail shop
• leisure (e.g. cinema, gym or tourist attraction)
• service providers (e.g. hair & beauty)
• massage parlour or health spa
• funeral parlour
• travel agency
• meeting, event or activity space (e.g. venue for hire for events or activities)
• use as a facility for youth organisations (scout hut)

If your business is already in receipt of 100% relief, for example, 100% Small Business Bonus, you should not apply for Retail, Hospitality and Leisure relief.

This relief will also be capped at a maximum of £110,000 per ratepayer.

We’d love to invite you and your little one to come along and discover 2’s Together, an exciting new early learning and childcare experience designed especially for eligible 2-year-olds, their parents and carers. Younger siblings are very welcome to join too, and during the school holidays, other siblings can also come along and enjoy the sessions.

This week we launched a new campaign to encourage people to pick up after their pooches.

Cllr Jill Scott was joined by two of our enforcement officers in Brechin's Inch Park, an area that is being targeted for patrols.

Signage will be in place and additional patrols will be undertaken in various locations across Angus where dog fouling has been a reported problem.

Picking up after your pooch is your responsibility. It's not fair to leave it for others to step in or worse. Not picking up after your dog is a criminal offence and if you're caught not picking up by one of our enforcement officers, you could face a fixed penalty notice of up to £500.

There's no excuse - we have over 600 dog bins and 900 litter bins across Angus and you can use both to deposit your dog's p**p.

We want to hear from parents, children and young people about the places where they play – whether that’s a park, street, garden, woodland or local play area. What do you like about the places you play? What could be better? And are there places you’d like to see improved?
