Fancy flying upside down all by yourself? Complete your aerobatics solo with LUAS ✈️
Off Cdt Burchmore gave us some details of what it takes to get to this stage and how his sortie went:
"The Solo General Handling sortie involves practicing more advanced flying manoeuvres on the UAS syllabus, including advanced turns and aerobatics. During this sortie the student can also practice their stall set-up and recoveries, and Practice Force Landings (PFL’s). Before this sortie students must complete the first half of the flying syllabus, which focuses on all the key general handling aspects to be flown during this sortie, all taught by experienced RAF instructors. Ahead of being cleared to solo, students must pass the solo general handling check ride with a QFI to demonstrate that they can safely fly each manoeuvre and be able to recover from poorly flown manoeuvres should they be required to do so.
In my solo Aeros I practiced recovering from three stalls which included a clean stall, stall in a final turn and a stall in the approach configuration. I then practiced advanced turns at 45 degree angle of bank and maximum rate turns at 60 degree angle of bank. For my aerobatics sequence, I flew a lookout wingover, loops, barrel rolls, aileron rolls, Cuban-8’s, and half horizontals before carrying out a PFL to a field. I then returned to Woodvale for some circuits to land."
Congratulations Off Cdt Burchmore, what an achievement! 👏✈️
