Forncett Village Hall

Forncett Village Hall Village Hall serving 'The Forncetts' in South Norfolk, UK; venue for many village activities. Sat Nav 'NR16 1JG' is quite accurate.

Forncett Village Hall (the former Forncett St Mary School) has served as the main social hub of the group of communities commonly known as ‘The Forncetts’ for over 60 years. With housing concentrated in the three main ‘centres’ of Forncett St Peter, Forncett St Mary and Forncett End and spread throughout the whole area of the parish, the Village Hall satisfies the need for a meeting place for a wi

de range of activities including bowls, garden club, art group and patchwork. The Hall is also the venue for Parish Council meetings, fund raising events for the Village Hall and other ‘good causes’, and private parties for children and adults. We have a well equipped kitchen and bar available on request, and a large screen TV, drop down projector screen and full fibre fast internet access. Adjacent to the Hall is ‘Jubilee Green’ – the site of the former village allotments – which is the setting for the annual village BBQ and occasional other outdoor events. Please note that the Village Hall is on Low Road, Forncett St Mary, just opposite the War Memorial, not far from the junction with Cheneys Lane. Details of booking procedure, the letting charges and terms and conditions can be found on the village web-site www.forncett.info in the 'Village Hall’ drop down menu. The Hall can be booked by the hour or 'session' (morning, afternoon or evening). Please note that bookings for private parties are normally only accepted from Forncett residents, but in exceptional circumstances (subject to Trustees' approval) may be allowed from other with close connection to the Village. The 'land-line' phone number inside the Village Hall is 01508 489711. There is an answerphone if you want to leave a non-urgent message (e.g. if you are making an enquiry about use of the Hall) but please be aware that it might be some time before you get a response. For a quicker response, we can also be contacted by email: [email protected].

StarFish are delighted to announce the return of retired forensic scientist Mary Newton to Forncett Village Hall on Friday 29th May 2026 for the last in her series of fascinating talks.
We have previously enjoyed talks called “Blood, Sweat and Fears”, “When The Dogs Don’t Bark” and “Hidden in Plain Sight”. The title of this final talk is “Rape – short word, long sentence”.
Mary was the lead forensic expert in the UK on r**e cases from 1992 until she retired in 2019. This talk covers what is relevant for scientists to focus on in this type of crime and how the science assists the police, and includes a number of big cases that she worked on including Operation Minstead / Night Stalker covering the critical forensic evidence which was collated over 18 years.
Mary also discusses a disclosure she had after giving this talk to a local WI group from a WI member about a stranger attack on her in her own home. It is such a bizarre case from 1994 that Mary had to look it up to check it was genuine! The lady involved has given permission for her case to be included in this talk and told Mary that whilst the police and female forensic doctor had been kind to her, she learnt stuff from Mary that was not explained to her at the time.
This talk promises to be an interesting and thought provoking evening coupled with a bit of humour reflecting Mary’s inimitable style, so don’t miss your opportunity to join us for the final opportunity to hear this engaging speaker. The previous talks have sold out within days of being advertised so get your tickets now.
Tickets are £12 per person and include a complimentary glass of wine and are available by emailing [email protected] or phoning 07793 274196.
Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7.30pm start

Can you spare an hour or two to help the Village Hall?

On Saturday morning (14th March 2026 ) we are having a 'spring clean' morning at the Village Hall. Touching up wall paint, cleaning chairs, clearing gutters, raking leaves and twigs from the car park, trimming 'straggly bits' for the hedges etc.
We'll be there from 9.30 am until around mid-day .... and there will be tea, coffee and biscuits!
Please come and join us. We'll have a selection of tools available, but please bring your own gloves and if you have your own favourite pruners, shears, loppers or leaf rake that would be helpful.
Hope to see you there!

If you can't make it on the 14th March, don't forget the Annual Village Litter Pick on Saturday 28th - meet at the Village Hall at 9.30 am. See the poster on page 2 of the March 2026 Flyer.

If you are interested in the history of the fine city of Norwich then StarFish bring you a fascinating and entertaining talk based around one of its most beautiful buildings.

Join art historian and Assembly House guide Roxanne Matthews to explore the depths of this Norwich landmark. While we know and love the Georgian facades and interiors, the House hides a rich and compelling history of religious foundations, Tudor spoils, great gatherings, a school, and a top secret war office. Roxanne shares her knowledge, stories and images of the House as we travel together through history through the eye of one building.

Forncett Village Hall - Friday 13th March at 7.30pm - Doors open at 7pm. Tickets £12 to include a glass of wine available from [email protected]

For those of you who keep asking if we will be doing any more themed events - keep the 11th and 12th September free! Plans are afoot - more details to come later in the year....

New Year's Day Village Walk.
The Village Hall will be open (Thursday 1st January) from 9.30am for walkers to pick up a map if they haven't participated before - or just to join up with fellow walkers. Some people start at other points in the village. Su and Pete Leavesley, at The Last Homely House in Tabernacle Lane, have again offered to provide mulled wine and mince pies. At the Village Hall, soup and rolls will be available, with hot and cold drinks, from 11.30am. There is no charge for these but there will be Charity Donation buckets, both at Su's and the Village Hall, for Norwich and Norfolk Food Banks. The refreshments are available to everyone - even if you don't manage the walk. Other drinks will be sold at the Bar.
Hope to see you there!
