We are very excited to be hosting our Brodie Estate Walk and Talk tomorrow, Friday, 26th at 2pm - 3pm.

We still have spaces left so if you would like to come along, we would love to see you! The talk is FREE for members or £10 for non-members (parking charges apply if you are not a member of the National Trust for Scotland)

You will take a walk across our Estate with our Assisstant Head Gardener who will talk about the heritage of our garden and grounds, how that relates to todays landscape and what the future may hold.

Learn about the biodiversity of the site, the conservation undertaken and reasons for this, how the team maintain the historical links, about wildlife on the Estate, what has changed in processes and techniques, what can be learnt from the past and how our actions help shape the future.

If you would like to come along, you can contact us on 01309 641700 to pre-book your ticket, or there will be spaces avilable on the day.

We are absolutely delighted to be hosting our living history day, Auld Brodie, again this year on Saturday, 18th July from 11am - 3pm.

We are welcoming back Medieval Realm, an experienced re-enactment group who will be hosting history displays and demonstrations telling you about life over the centuries the Castle has stood.

Tents will feature displays allowing you to delve into and enjoy some historical activities. Chat to the costumed players to find out about their clothing or activities, watch their different demonstrations throughout the day, with a chance for the children to join in!

Included with all paid-for children's tickets are 3 arrows with Moray Moray Archery! We are delighted that the club are joining us again this year to add another dimension!

We are thrilled that joining us on the day will be Elgin Dualist Fencing Club who will be demonstrating the art of fencing and helping you learn a move or two!

Kids can dress up like a Princess, Duchess, Knight, King or even a Solider like our 24th Laird, Ian, who was decorated soldier. Included in the cost of 'Auld Brodie' for children to enjoy, is the Brodie Tracker Trail to identify our wildlife from their prints and receive a Tracker Certificate on their return. There will also be some crafts run by our Brodie Team to enjoy.

Tickets cost £7 for children aged 5 – 17 and £3 for an adult with under 5s free of charge. You can purchase your tickets, and get more information, on the booking link in othe comments below.

You are welcome to come in and out of the event throughout the day and enjoy all the rest the Castle and Estate have to offer. Why not visit the Castle for a self-guided tour where you can wander at your own pace and have a chat with our friendly and knowledgeable guides? Self-guided visits are between 10.30am and 2pm (with last entry at 1.30pm) and we have guided tours available in the afternoon as well! Included in the cost of Castle entry is the new Lego Trail where you can meet some of the characters who have lived in Brodie Castle throughout it's existence.

This is a great 'Guess the Item' we have for today!

A few clues- we have the modern version of these in the Castle now... they are in a lot of rooms and are quite visable, they would certainly have been handy with the weather over the last few days and they have been part of our previous Ivory Exhibition so you may have seen them in the Gallery.

So leave your guesses in the comments below and I will post the answers on Monday, with a photo of our modern day version - which you can maybe spot on your way around the Castle on a tour or our Self Guided Saturdays!

Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble!

We do have a connection to the hill where it is alleged the three witches met Macbeth - known now as Macbeths Hillock - so you would be forgiven for thinking that this is some sort of magic potion we have concocted, however, this is actually thousands of tadpoles in our pond!

We showed you our toads making their way to the pond last month - here is the result!

🎼 I don't care what the weather man says... 🎶

Calling all Nature Nippers!

We still have spaces on this Thursday's Nature Nippers session which is all about... the weather!

Nature Nippers is designed for 3 - 5-year-olds to learn about different aspects of nature through games, crafts, stories and activities. It is a fun, hour long, outdoor session set in our beautiful Estate and is a great activity for children and adults to learn together in a different environment.

We run Nature Nippers from March to October and you are welcome at any of our future sessions!

If you would be interested in coming along to this Thursday's (18th June) Nature Nippers at 11am down by our Stables building, please book your child's ticket using the link in the comments below. We can't wait to see you!

You would be forgiven for thinking this was a Transformer, but it is actually a Golden-ringed dragonfly which our Grounds and Estate Manager came across while it was resting up in the long grass by the Playful Garden.

Isn't it striking? The intricacy of its wings are just amazing!

Golden-ringed dragonflies are found widely across Scotland, Wales and north and west England. They breed in acidic rivers and streams of all sizes and you will see them out between May and October.

The female is larger than the male at over 8cm long and is the UK’s longest dragonfly. What you don’t see well in these photos are that it’s eyes are actually a striking green colour.

We have some fantastic wildlife here at Brodie so watch out over the next wee while as we introduce you to some!
