🔥 𝗣𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗘 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥: 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗘 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗦𝗘𝗘 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘 𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞𝗦 𝗟𝗜𝗞𝗘.

Scottish Green MSP for the Highlands and Islands Ariane Burgess is challenging Prime Minister Andy Burnham to visit the areas of the Cairngorms devastated by this summer’s wildfire while he is in Scotland.

The wildfire affected around 25 square kilometres of the Cairngorms, with local people forced from their homes as the emergency unfolded. The Scottish Greens reported evacuations around Nethy Bridge during the incident.

The Scottish Greens have been warning that Scotland must take urgent action to adapt to the climate crisis and ensure communities and emergency services have the resources they need to respond to wildfires.

And as Ariane Burgess puts it:

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘂𝗺𝘀 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗮𝗴𝗲.

Save the Children Scotland and Close the Gap shows the scale of the problem: 𝟱𝟱% 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝘆, 𝟰𝟮% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻-𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗽𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘁𝘆.

This matters in Moray too. 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹’𝘀 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰/𝟮𝟱 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮 shows median gross weekly earnings of £𝟲𝟴𝟴.𝟴𝟬 for people working in Moray, compared with £𝟳𝟯𝟵.𝟳𝟬 across Scotland. It also reports 𝟭𝟲.𝟮% of people earning below the Living Wage, compared with 𝟭𝟭.𝟯% nationally.

Yet young people under 25 can receive a lower Universal Credit standard allowance simply because of their age. The current difference for a single claimant is £𝟴𝟲.𝟯𝟮 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵.

A 24-year-old mum doesn't pay less for her rent, electricity, food or nappies because she's under 25.

We’re backing the Scottish Greens' call for the UK Government to 𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲.

Tackling poverty means combining fair financial support with 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘆, 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆-𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸.

𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗘𝗦 𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗘 𝗔 𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗖𝗘.

The First Minister has refused to commit to a full public consultation on planning guidance for hyperscale data centres.
With huge proposals being considered across Scotland, including the Chapelcross development, Scottish Greens co-leader Gillian Mackay has called for local communities to be properly heard before decisions are made.

More than 5,000 objections have already been submitted to the Chapelcross application.

𝗗𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 𝗢𝗙 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗦𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗢𝗨𝗟𝗗𝗡'𝗧 𝗕𝗘 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗗 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗘𝗗 𝗗𝗢𝗢𝗥𝗦.

Now the Scottish Government has dropped the LDAN Bill.

People with learning disabilities, autistic people and other neurodivergent people have every right to ask:

𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗛𝗔𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗡𝗦 𝗡𝗢𝗪?

The Scottish Greens are calling on ministers to set out clearly what will be delivered, when people will see improvements, and how those changes will be funded for the long term.

That must include action on access to support, independent advocacy, accessible communication and mandatory training shaped by lived experience.
The people who helped develop this Bill shared their time, energy and lived experience in the hope that things would finally change. Their voices and their rights cannot be lost.

On Thursday Scottish Green Party ran on a manifesto of hope, and Yesterday the people of Scotland responded by delivering a record number of Green MSPs to Holyrood.

In our region, we doubled the number of MSPs, with a record result. In Edinburgh and Glasgow, we elected our first and second ever constituency MSPs, and in regions all across the country, we elected Greens, meaning that every resident, in every single corner of our nation, there is a Green MSP there to help us demand better.

It's thanks to tireless volunteers and activists who give up their time to knock on doors, leaflet, donate, have over dinner conversations, and importantly vote that make these moments possible.

The hard work starts now for our 15 Green MSPs to deliver a fairer, greener future we all deserve.

New oil and gas fields won't lower bills. This is a fact. When other parties claim they will, they know they're misleading you.

Investing in cheap, clean, green and locally-produced renewable energy will lower bills, create jobs, and improve our national security.
