Another busy week at Framlingham Town Council — here’s a small amount of what we’ve been up to! 😊

Have Your Say on Framlingham’s Future 📋🏡
Every household in Framlingham should now have received a leaflet about the Modified Neighbourhood Plan. 📬 If yours didn’t arrive, please let us know.
Inside, you’ll find all the details about our Drop-In Exhibition on 2nd July at the United Free Church, where you can view the plan, ask questions, and share your thoughts. 💬
Your views really do matter and will help shape the future of our town, so please do take a look and get involved. ✨ The consultation will run online until 31st August so you have plenty of time to respond.

Planning & Highways Committee Update 🚦🏗️
This week, the Planning and Highways Committee met at the United Free Church to consider a number of planning applications, including the Sports Club and the new Framlingham Family Centre. It was encouraging to see such strong public interest, with 16 members of the community attending. 👥
Chaired by Cllr Dean, the meeting gave everyone who wished to speak the chance to share their views before the Committee discussed the application. A really positive example of local democracy in action. 🗣️🤝
The Committee resolved to support the application, while also raising several important concerns in its formal response, including highways access and traffic management, parking, flooding and drainage, and noise and light pollution. 📝

New Road Allotments Update 🚰🌱
We’re delighted to share that the new water taps at the New Road Allotments have now been installed. ✅
A big thank you to Ashford Wright Property and Building Solutions and the Co-op for helping make this happen. Their support means more of the Field to Fork funding can now be used for other improvements across the site — great news for our allotment community. 🥕🌼

Community Self-Help Scheme 🦺🛠️
Earlier this week, our Clerk attended a webinar on Suffolk’s Community Self-Help Scheme, which supports town and parish councils to carry out small but useful highways maintenance tasks locally. 🌿
The scheme offers volunteer training, public liability insurance, hi-vis clothing, and reimbursement for approved tools. This helps councils take on jobs such as w**d removal, grass cutting, sign cleaning, and clearing vegetation on roads with speed limits of 40mph or less. 🚧
Framlingham Town Council is already registered with the scheme, and we’re keen to get things moving again, but we need more volunteers to do so. If you’d like to get involved, please email [email protected]. 📧🙋

East Suffolk Local Plan 📣🏘️
Our Clerk and Deputy Clerk also attended a briefing this week on East Suffolk Council’s new Local Plan.
A Scoping Consultation has now launched, and residents are invited to share their views before 5pm on 29th July 2026.
Please note that this is separate from Framlingham’s own Neighbourhood Plan and covers planning policy across the whole of East Suffolk. 📍

🗣️ Calling all Framlingham residents! How do you want our area to develop in the future? 🏡🌳

East Suffolk Council is putting together a new Local Plan, and they want to hear your thoughts right at the starting line!

What is the Local Plan?
It is the main planning document used to make decisions on local planning applications. It sets the vision for our area, shapes the strategy for new development, and identifies sites for future housing and employment.

Because this document impacts everything from local infrastructure to our green spaces, it is incredibly important that Framlingham’s voice is heard. Your feedback at this early stage will directly help shape the options and policies developed later on.

📅 The Local Plan Scoping Consultation is open now and runs until 5:00 PM on 29 July 2026.

Following Full Council's approval of the Draft Neighbourhood Plan earlier this month, we're pleased to share that leaflets are now being delivered to every household in Framlingham! 📬

The leaflet outlines how you can have your say on the plan, and details our consultation launch event on 2nd July at the United Free Church — an opportunity to come along, ask questions, and share your thoughts in person. 🗣️🤝

Your feedback matters. The more voices we hear, the stronger and more representative the final plan will be — shaping Framlingham's future development and growth for years to come. 🌱🏘️ We encourage everyone to get involved! 💬

👥🏟️ Fram Fam – Youth Provision at Framlingham Sports Club

This week, members of the Planning Committee met with representatives from Fram Fam, along with the architect 🏗️ and project manager behind the proposed new youth provision at Framlingham Sports Club.

As the application is due to be discussed at the Planning Committee meeting next Tuesday evening 📅, and given that the Fram Fam representatives and project team are unable to attend at that time, it was important the committee had the opportunity to hear directly from those involved before the meeting takes place.

The pre-meeting discussion has given committee members a fuller understanding of the proposals, ensuring they are well-informed and able to give thorough and considered comments when the application is reviewed. ✅

🎄✨ Is It Ever Too Early to Talk Christmas?

We never like to say the 'C' word too early in the year 😅 — but sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns! This week, we did exactly that, kicking off preparations in earnest for our Christmas Light Switch On, taking place on Friday 27th November. 🎅🎁

Our new Communications and Events Co-ordinator, once recruited, will be leading the charge on pulling this exciting event together 🚀, but with stalls, acts, and performers needing to be booked well in advance, we've already been busy behind the scenes making things happen. 🎭🎶

Town events like this are only made possible by the incredible support of our community ❤️ — and that means we need YOU!

☀️🧇 A Sweet New Addition to Pageant Field This Summer!

Do you remember those days when taking the kids to the park to burn off energy 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️, and life felt just a little better with a coffee in hand ☕ and something sweet to enjoy? 🍰 We certainly do — and we think we've found the perfect way to bring that feeling to Framlingham this summer!

We're thrilled to announce a brand new trial initiative in partnership with the wonderful Waffle Women 💕. You may well have spotted them and their iconic bright pink Tuk Tuk 🚖💗 on the Tuesday market and the odd Saturday.

From Sunday 28th June through to the end of August 🌞, they'll be setting up at Pageant Field, serving up delicious treats to keep the whole family happy. 😋

🏡💼 Local Council Clerk Week | 8–12 June 2026

Behind every noticeboard 📌, play area 🛝, community event 🎪, allotment 🌱, remembrance service 🌺, and market day 🛍️ in Framlingham, there are two people quietly making it all happen.

This week is SLCC Local Council Clerk Week, and we're taking a moment to shine a very well-deserved spotlight 🔦 on our Clerk and Deputy Clerk here at Framlingham Town Council — the dedicated professionals who are the beating heart ❤️ of our local democracy.

Their days are anything but ordinary. Working alongside a small but brilliant office team 👏, they manage council records and finances 📑💷, coordinate events 📅, and handle a remarkable variety of enquiries 📞📧 — the steady, skilled hands behind the scenes that turn plans into reality and ensure our community continues to thrive. 🌟

Parish and town councils have been woven into the fabric of local life since 1894 🏛️, and clerks have been central to that story ever since. As devolution places ever greater responsibility on town and parish councils, their expertise, professionalism, and commitment matter more than ever.

To our Clerk, Deputy Clerk, and the whole office team — thank you. 💙

Update from East Suffolk Council re Food Waste Collection Service
The Town Council is advising residents of temporary issues affecting East Suffolk Council's new food waste collection service. While the recently introduced paper and cardboard collections are operating well, the food waste element of the Better Recycling rollout is encountering early challenges.

Most households continue to receive their weekly food waste collection on schedule. However, a number of rounds were not completed last week due to technical problems with the new specialist vehicles and crews adjusting to the updated service processes. East Suffolk Council has confirmed that all missed collections will be completed this week.

Guidance for Residents
Put out your large food caddy each week on your usual collection day, ensuring the handle is left upright to lock the lid.
Bring your caddy back in if it is not emptied. It will be collected on your next scheduled day.
Expect at least a fortnightly collection for now, although weekly collections will continue in most areas.
Use your black‑lidded bin for any additional food waste if your caddy becomes full.
Bin Deliveries
Households still waiting for their new bins are advised that deliveries are close to completion. Residents only need to report missing bins once; repeated reports may slow down progress.

Contacting the Council
To help manage the rollout efficiently, residents are asked to contact the council only if they have not already reported an issue. Duplicate enquiries can cause further delays.

Five on Friday – 5 June 2026
It has been a particularly busy week at the Town Council offices, beginning on Monday with visits from several residents bringing a range of queries that we have helped them with:

Neighbourhood Plan Review 🏡📄
At its meeting this week, the Town Council approved the draft revision of the Neighbourhood Plan, a key document that will guide the future development of the town.
Residents are warmly invited to attend the launch of the public consultation, taking place at the United Free Church on Thursday 2 July between 3:00pm and 8pm. This will be an opportunity to view the draft plan, speak with representatives, and share your feedback.
Following the launch event, the consultation will remain open for a further six weeks. During this time, the plan will be available to view at various locations across the town, and residents are encouraged to submit their comments.
The Council hopes that as many residents as possible will take part in shaping this important document.

Bus Service to Woodbridge 🚌
We have received several enquiries this week regarding the current lack of bus services between Framlingham and Woodbridge. Residents have noted that a previous service, which operated after the school drop-off using a school bus, has recently been withdrawn.
We are also aware of a privately operated service running monthly from Bedfield through Framlingham. However, this service is often at full capacity by the time it reaches Framlingham and is therefore unable to accommodate additional passengers.
The Council will be making further enquiries to better understand the situation and explore options for reinstating a more regular and reliable service.

Better Recycling Update ♻️
We have received a high volume of enquiries this week regarding the new bin collection arrangements, which have been a key topic of discussion across the town.
East Suffolk Council has experienced some initial teething issues as new collection routes and schedules are introduced. These changes form part of Government-led initiative to improve recycling and introduce food waste collections, which all local authorities are required to implement.
We kindly ask residents for their patience and understanding as the crews adapt to the new collection system and services become fully established.
Please note that a dedicated app is also available, providing a wealth of information on the new bin collection arrangements, recycling guidance, and waste services across East Suffolk.

Five on Friday – 29th May 2026 ☀️🎉
This week has absolutely flown by — and we think the incredible atmosphere from the fabulous Gala Fest over the Bank Holiday weekend might have something to do with it!

🎪 Gala Fest
We were proud to sponsor this fantastic community event and, with the sunshine making an appearance all weekend, it truly felt like one of the best festivals on record.
From fun activities and entertainment to bringing the whole town together, there really was something for everyone to enjoy across the three days.
A huge thank you goes to all the amazing volunteers at the Sports Club who work so hard every year to make Gala Fest possible. Your dedication and community spirit are what make this event so special. 👏

📶 Town WiFi Update
Many of you will have noticed that the Town WiFi service is currently unavailable.
As soon as we became aware of the issue, we shared updates via our social media channels and website. We are now awaiting further confirmation from BT regarding the repair work required.
As soon as we receive more information, we will continue to keep the community updated.

We’re delighted to welcome a brand-new stall to our Saturday Market this weekend!
The new trader will be selling all things Framlingham — perfect for gifts, keepsakes, and local favourites. Even better, 10% of all profits will be donated to St Elizabeth Hospice 💚
We hope you’ll come along, show your support, and enjoy a visit to the Market this weekend. Every purchase will help support an incredible local charity while also supporting a new local business.

🌿 Greener Fram Events This Weekend
We’re also looking forward to the events Greener Fram have planned for this weekend.
They’ve hinted at a surprise on Market Hill on Saturday morning — but haven’t given anything away yet! We’re definitely intrigued and will be heading to the market to see what’s happening.
The day will continue in the afternoon at the Castle Community Rooms with a screening of a climate film, followed by a discussion about the People’s Emergency Briefing.
It promises to be a really interesting and thought-provoking day — we hope to see some of you there!

🌼 Visit to the Cemetery
With the beautiful weather finally here, we wanted to share a few photos taken at our cemetery this week.
The wildflower area is overflowing with wonderful daisies, while the established roses in the memorial garden are now beautifully in bloom. It’s a lovely time of year to visit, reflect, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. 🌹

Running Race – Friday Evening

Please be aware that around 400 runners will be taking part in the Framlingham Flyers Friday 5 race on Friday evening, between 7pm and 8.30pm.

Runners will be on the roads around Framlingham and Cransford, with the busiest areas being Saxmundham Road and Badingham Road, as the route heads to and from the Sports Club.

Please take extra care if you’re driving in the area during this time. Thank you for helping keep everyone safe.

Public Wi‑Fi in Framlingham Service Issues

The public Wi‑Fi in Framlingham is currently down due to an internet connection issue. East Suffolk Council and its supplier are investigating, and BT will need to return to resolve a fibre supply fault. Thanks for your patience while this is sorted.
