So…some personal news. I am set to become James Adams MSP

Incredibly proud of my good friend Douglas Lumsden MSP after his astounding win in the Aberdeen South by-election. The campaign was fantastic and the result thoroughly deserved. I know he will be a great champion for the city. With Douglas becoming an MP, I will take his place as regional MSP for the North East of Scotland.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity and look forward to getting down to Edinburgh to start the new job.

Will keep you all posted! Holyrood here I come!

Always happy to celebrate National Fish & Chip day. Cracking feed as always from Findlay’s Fish Bar & Diner. We really are so lucky to have a great range of chippers in our North East corner, who serve up the best of fish. 🐟 🍟

Elspeth has been a great champion for the Scottish Fishing Industry so it is sad to see her retire, but I wish her all the best for the future and thank her for all her hard work!

After seven years as Chief Executive of the Scottish Fishermen's Federation, Elspeth Macdonald has announced she will retire from the organisation in March 2027.

Elspeth took up the role in 2019 and has been an exceptional advocate for Scotland's fishing industry through some of the most significant challenges in its history, from Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic to the successful campaign against Highly Protected Marine Areas.

Her knowledge, professionalism and unwavering commitment to Scotland's fishermen has earned her widespread respect across the industry, in government and beyond.

On behalf of everyone in Scotland's fishing industry - thank you, Elspeth. 🎣

The Crown Estates Coastal Communities Fund for the Banff and Buchan area has opened for a second tranche.

Deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday, June 24 and groups will be informed of decisions by July 15.

Every year, some of Crown Estate Scotland's income is allocated to coastal local authorities - including Aberdeenshire Council - and is distributed via grants of between £500 and £5,000.

Once again we’re looking for projects to help fund that are led by public or third sector parties that have a tangible link to the coast or sea which:

✅Help people to develop skills related to coastal or seafaring pursuits, activities or enterprises, for example sailing, fishing, or boatbuilding

✅Celebrate the heritage of coastal and seagoing communities of place and interest. For example, a coastal or fishing village or township, historic boatbuilding, or relevant clubs or organisations

✅Improve access to coastal areas. For example, paths and viewpoints

✅Improve the coastal environment. For example, applications to establish and support community groups looking after their coastline

✅Improve community-controlled infrastructure such as harbours, boathouses and buildings.

Ruth Davidson has urged voters to back Douglas Lumsden MSP as a local champion for oil and gas by voting for the Scottish Conservatives at the upcoming Aberdeen South by-election.

The former Scottish Conservative leader joined Douglas on the campaign trail as the party aims to win the constituency when the vote takes place on June 18.

Alongside dozens of supporters, Ruth spoke to residents with Douglas on the doors in Bieldside to emphasise that the Scottish Conservatives are the only party that can defeat the SNP.

She warned that a vote for Reform is a vote for the SNP after the Scottish Conservatives narrowly missed out on winning Holyrood’s Aberdeen Deeside and North Kincardine seat by just 1,244 votes earlier this month.

Ruth said Aberdeen has been suffocated by the SNP’s anti oil and gas policies for far too long and urgent change was needed.

Former Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson said: “It was great to be in Aberdeen South with Douglas Lumsden to speak to residents who are sick and tired of their priorities being ignored by the SNP.

“The public’s message was clear: the SNP have betrayed the people of Aberdeen South and our vital oil and gas sector.

“Douglas, who spent 25 years in the industry, is focussed on the issues that matter to local people and would make a leading champion for oil and gas in Aberdeen.

“Aberdeen is being suffocated by the SNP’s presumption against new oil and gas fields, while Labour wants to ban all new licences in the North Sea.

“As we saw in the Scottish Parliament election for this area earlier this month, a vote for Reform or anyone else risks letting the SNP win here.

“That is why only Douglas Lumsden and the Scottish Conservatives can beat the SNP at the Aberdeen South by-election on June 18.”

Scottish Conservative candidate for Aberdeen South, Douglas Lumsden, said: “It was fantastic to have Ruth, Russell and so many party members out with me in Aberdeen South.

“Residents are telling us they want change from the SNP, who have failed to back our oil and gas sector, and are destroying our city centre with bus gates and LEZs.

“Pro-UK voters must unite around the Scottish Conservatives on June 18 to beat the SNP and ensure they elect me as an MP who will champion the oil and gas industry every single day.”

It’s our favourite day on the Calendar here at the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses so much so that we think it should be a public holiday!

Judging by the size of our lighthouse Breakfast Teacup we think the Light-keepers would agree! We think it must be the Victorian equivalent to a Sports Direct Mug.

Go on. Have a cup! And make it Fair Trade!
