It’s Scottish National Apprenticeship Week, and we’re proud to celebrate it here at RSPB Loch of Strathbeg.

Our first-ever apprentice joined us last November, and they’ve already become a valued part of the team, learning the ropes of conservation work, helping to care for valuable habitats, and bringing fresh energy to the reserve.

We’re proud to be helping young people build meaningful careers in nature.

If you’d like to find out more about our apprenticeship program, please feel free to get in touch!

Love is in the air? 💕

This pair originally felt the staff boot room was the place to visit but were relocated to the wildlife pond! They eventually swam off under the vegetation.

This warm spell of weather has woken up some of the toads hibernating on the reserve.

Following our Fraserburgh roadshow with Aberdeenshire Council Ranger Service over the past two weeks, we’re delighted to share that a small exhibition is now on display in Fraserburgh Library.

If you’re in the Broch, why not pop in and explore what local children and young people have told us about how they feel about nature and spending time outdoors? We’d love to hear your thoughts too—there are postcards available for you to fill in, along with information on wildlife gardening.

Although it currently seems like there are never ending grey skies and rain in the north east, nature has started showing us reminders that Spring is not too far away. We’ve started seeing snow drops, catkins, p***y willow and yellow gorse flowers on the reserves.

After an unfortunate find of sanitary products in one of the reserve woodlands plus growing numbers of used tissue paper for 'wild wees' spotted, this a reminder for all to leave no trace.

Below are a couple of links - one to camping in Scotland outdoors, including going to the 'loo', the other, about managing periods while outdoors.

Be a responsible camper - get tips on access, using stoves instead of lighting open fires and what to do when you need the loo.
