Mission
Freshwater Independent Lifeboat operates 2 boats 24/7 in an area up to 30M off shore from Hurst Point to St Catherine’s point on the Isle of Wight. Entirely independent we rely on donations and fundraising by our volunteers to run this service. Our crews are all volunteers who give their time willingly to save lives at sea and undertake the training to do this. We are always pleased to mee

t new volunteers at the boathouse on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Description
Freshwater LIfeboat is an independent resue organisation. We are not affiliated to the RNLI and have to raise all our funds ourselves. The service started life in 1972 when the council decided that there should be better rescue provision around our beaches. The unit is staffed entirely by volunteers - from the crew to the shop.

UPDATE: Izzy’s trans Pyrenean challenge.
Unfortunately Izzy became unwell at the end of the second phase 😟. He developed chest pains and went to hospital where they diagnosed inflamed arteries.
He has completed 230km but cannot carry on.
A friend , whose bike was broken and unrepairable, was planning to carry on and complete the challenge using Izzy’s bike.
The just giving link will be closed down on the 10th June.
Thank you to all who have already donated.
Izzy hopes to be home on Wednesday and hopefully he has recovered from the huge exertions already made on our behalf and has suffered no permanent damage.
Thank you Izzy for your efforts, you are a star 🌟👏👏

Wight Wheels 2026 Charity Classic Car and Bike Show presented by Wight American Cars and sponsored by Premier Ford returns to Chale Recreation Ground for its biggest show ever on Sunday 14 June.

Now in its ninth year, Wight Wheels has become a must-see Island event where everyone can enjoy a vibrant mix of vehicles, from Classic & Modified Cars to Hot Rods, Motorbikes, Trucks and even Commercials.

The show boasts a great variety of trade stands, food stalls and attractions for all the family, with music from Wight DJ ‘s and a host of live acts keeping everyone entertained throughout the day!

Whether you’re showcasing your wheels or simply looking forward to a great day out as a visitor, it’s going to be a fantastic show for the whole family.

All proceeds from the event have always supported an Island charity, and this year Wight Wheels is very proud to support the Freshwater Independent Lifeboat and the amazing work they do.

Show Vehicle entry is just £5 which includes the driver and all passengers, with spectators being asked for a donation for parking and admission.

Mainland exhibitors and showgoers can also get discounted ferry travel from Wightlink & Red Funnel for travel to the Island for Wight Wheels 2026.

Please visit the Wight Wheels page for more details, and we look forward to welcoming you to the biggest and best ever Wight Wheels event!
