Due to councillor resignations we have two vacancies for Parish Councillors.

If anyone is interested in applying for a role on the council, please email [email protected].

Unless ten electors within the Parish give notice within 14 working
days* from the notice date (11 May 2026) requesting that an election be held, the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

The requests can be made by writing to the Chief Executive, Electoral Services, Somerset Council, County Hall, The Crescent, Taunton, Somerset, TA1 4DY.

They can also be made via email: [email protected]
The requests do not have to arrive at the same time.

* These are full working days which do not include weekends or bank holidays.

Not much "mush-room" for improvement now! 🍄🖌️

The bollards opposite the Church were looking a little weathered, so we’ve given them a well-deserved refresh. It’s amazing what a lick of paint can do for our historic streetscape!

Nunney Parish Council is looking for reliable contractors to join our new "Approved Suppliers List" for minor works and maintenance around the village!

We are establishing a simple call-off arrangement so we can quickly reach out to pre-approved professionals for ad-hoc repairs, maintenance, and emergency works as they arise.

What kind of work is involved?

The types of tasks include, but are not limited to:
* Parish Assets: Repairs to benches, noticeboards, and fencing; painting and preservation.
* Highways & Public Realm: Clearing drains/culverts, minor path repairs, sign cleaning, and litter clearance.
* Specialist Skills: Small carpentry or metalwork repairs.
* Emergency Works: Reactive tasks such as clearing fallen branches or urgent safety hazards.

How does it work?
* This is a call-off contract—inclusion on the list doesn't guarantee a specific volume of work.
* You provide your pre-agreed hourly or fixed-price rates upfront.
* All contractors must hold valid Public Liability Insurance (ÂŁ5 million minimum) and relevant trade qualifications.

HELP KEEP NUNNEY SAFE: JOIN OUR NEW COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH TEAM! đźš—đź’¨

Since the introduction of our 20mph scheme last year, we’ve seen a positive change in the village—but we know that speeding remains a persistent issue on our roads.

To support the new Speed Indicator Devices (SIDs) that are currently be investigated by the Parish Council, we are officially launching a Community SpeedWatch Group and we need your help!

What is Community SpeedWatch?
It is a volunteer-led initiative overseen by Avon & Somerset Police. Volunteers hold high-visibility roadside sessions to monitor traffic speeds. It’s not about catching people out; it’s about providing a visual deterrent, gathering evidence on frequent offenders, and improving the quality of life in our village.

What’s involved for volunteers?
âś… Short Training: A 45-minute to 1-hour session to learn how to use the equipment.
âś… Small Commitment: Just 30 to 60 minutes per session. We aim for 4 sessions per month (depending on volunteer numbers).
âś… Safety First: All sessions take place in teams of 2 or 3, in dry weather and during daylight hours. High-viz jackets and equipment are provided.
âś… Police Supported: All volunteers undergo a basic DBS check for peace of mind.

Does it work?
Yes! Data shows it makes a real difference. Warning letters are sent by the Police to vehicle owners, and further action is taken against persistent offenders.

Community SpeedWatch in Nunney

The 20 mile and hour scheme in Nunney was finally established last year. It has made considerable difference but there are persistent offenders and people do become complacent and we need to keep up the pressure on drivers to slow down. One measure is to set up a Community SpeedWatch scheme. This gives local residents an opportunity to get involved in helping to keep our roads in Nunney safe.

Q: What is involved in becoming a Community SpeedWatch Volunteer?

Volunteers will provide certain details for a DBS basic police check to ensure they have no convictions or criminal record.

They will then receive training (45 minutes to 1 hr), be shown how to use equipment, where they can stand to do the speed checks.

The location will have been agreed before by the Road Policing Unit (RPU)

All necessary equipment is provided and access to support and resources.

Q: What are the commitments for a SpeedWatch Volunteer?

Be available for a session lasting 30 minutes to 1 hr.

Depending on the number of volunteers, we intend to carry out up to 4 sessions per month.

Sessions will be in dry conditions and during daylight hours only.
Be willing to abide by all training and safety regulations, wear high viz jackets, etc

Be willing to work with one or two others.

Q: Do SpeedWatch Schemes make a difference?

Evidence – data and anecdotal – suggests that it really does!
