Local hosts opening their homes to Ukrainian families fleeing conflict, have been sharing their experiences:

“Having now had our guests living with us for two months, we could never have predicted how much they have brought to our lives. Sharing daily tasks: cooking, gardening, eating together, our hilarious struggles to communicate and learn about one another’s lives and culture is enormously rewarding and mutually beneficial.”

Frome Welcomes Refugees is looking for more hosts, language teachers and work opportunities. Read how you can offer you support 👉 frometowncouncil.gov.uk/more-hosts-needed-for-ukrainian-families/

As a further 6 refugees arrive in Frome it feels worth posting this again - please do share it widely, we can really help link people into the large group already here and support them over the challenging initial hurdles:

Frome Welcomes Refugees is now engaged in supporting hosts and guests in Frome and villages that interact directly with Frome. There are now some Ukrainians arriving, and/or hosts about to host who have not been in touch - of course its up to them - we are here as a voluntary group with good contacts and experience, hopefully an interim until the local government get their support act together.... BUT if you are hosting or about to host, OR know of others who might like support and links, do please lest us know @twentyfifty.co.uk

(Frome another local Ukraine orientated site):
A message for any Ukrainian guests in England (or if you host, please let your guests know in advance. ) Next weekend is a special celebration - the Platinum Jubilee (70 years) of Queen Elizabeth being Queen of the United Kingdom. This means that from Thursday 2 June there will be a national holiday for 4 days, there will be parties in the streets and many shops may be closed.
Also, there will be fireworks (which can sound like bombs and rockets! ), low-flying aircraft displays, and perhaps military salute near Warminster at Betlesbury Barracks - could mean cannon or tank firing. It is important to know this in advance to understand that you and your children are not threatened by the noise of guns, tanks, planes and fireworks. If you have any concerns about this please contact your landlords for further information.
A notice for any Ukrainian guests in England (or if you are hosting, please let your guests know well in advance.)

In addition, there will be fireworks (which can sound like bombs and missiles!), displays by low flying aircraft, and possibly a military salute nearby in Warminster at Battlesbury Barracks - this may mean guns or tanks firing in formation. Its important you know about this in advance, so that you understand you and any children with you are not in any danger from the noises of guns, tanks, aircraft and fireworks. If you have any concerns about this, please ask your hosts for more information.
