Climate Café®️ Frome kicks off tomorrow!! We’re creating an environment where individuals can drink, chat and act. It’s open to everyone, of all ages!

📆 The third Friday of the month. Upcoming: Fri 16th Oct, Fri 20th Nov, Fri 18th Dec

We’re excited to host a cozy pop-up cafe where you can enjoy complimentary tea, coffee, squash, and biscuits (donations appreciated). Feel free to bring your own packed lunch if you’d like (no nuts please), and there’s a designated toy area for children to enjoy.

Additionally, we will offer simple craft activities for young and old. Engaging in creative activities can significantly ease feelings of anxiety and help everyone feel more at ease while attending a new event and connecting with others.

We are hosting our October family litter pick this Sunday, October 11th.

📍Please meet us around 10am near the school where the pin is on the map.

You don’t need to bring anything but if you’d like to bring gardening gloves, feel free. All litter pickers and rubbish bags provided. Hope to see you there!

🪡STITCH IT DON’T DITCH ITwith Everyone Needs Pockets 🪡

🪡SATURDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER 11AM-12NOON IN THE WESTWAY🪡

Join the Street Stitching demonstration to mend your broken clothes out in public for an hour. It’s a way to come together to encouraging everyone to mend their belongings as a practical and joyful solution to waste and over consumption.

🪡WHEN AND WHERE
Please meet by the bridge between the Westway and the Library on the Ellenbray side at 10.30am on Saturday 26th September. We will set up and then sit and stitch from 11am - 12noon

🪡WHAT TO BRING
Bring as little as possible with you!
Something to mend for an hour, a chair or stool to sit on (ideally folding so it’s easy to carry to and from the event) and a banner saying ‘Stitch it don’t ditch it’ to attach to the back of your chair…and that’s it.

🪡BANNERS
Bring a Banner or sign to attach to your chair saying ’Stitch it don’t ditch it’. These can be anything from the beautiful stitched banners I know some of you have already made to a hand written sign taped to the chair back! Remember to bring something to attach it to either the chair or your back.

🪡THE STITCH IT DON’T DITCH IT MOVEMENT
Suzi Warren is the artist behind the Street Stitching movement.
The aim is to demonstrate that repairing something broken gives our brains a bigger dopamine hit than purchasing something new. Persuading people of the benefits of mending rather than making them feel defensive about their purchasing habits. Mending isn’t a chore. It’s a mindful act of self soothing and relaxation. It promotes gratitude for what we have and a respect for how our garments are constructed. Our relationship with our clothes is like any relationship - it becomes more satisfying, meaningful and rewarding the longer it lasts.

We wanted to share this local pop-up since it’s rooted in community.

Welcome to The ForEm - Part fête. Part exhibition. Part experiment.

The ForEm asks deceptively simple questions:
What makes Frome, Frome? And who gets to decide what comes next?

The ForEm invites people to explore the stories they tell about the town: its independence, creativity and community spirit, and also its challenges, contradictions and changing identities. Expect performances, films, artworks, games, community stories and a warm invitation to question ways of thinking, feeling, dreaming, sensing - and making sense - of the town we share.

The ForEm is the commissioned work of Frome-based artist Kate Keara Pelen, developed through her collaboration with the University of Glasgow’s Civic Imaginary Partnerships research project. It turns a year of research into a space for the town to play with, challenge and add to what we have found.

Free performances:
Tom Spencer will guide an unconventional gallery tour through the artefacts, stories, myths and characters of the town.
Martin Scott – bringing together Town Crier, Cheese Lord and long-time observer of Frome life – will invite audiences to spin the wheel of Frome Roulette, triggering different stories about the town’s civic tribes, traditions and archetypes.

Plus:
The Community Loom designed by Claire Orpin and Tamara Jones.
Films made by Frome residents through the community film project led by Dr John Sealey of Fabian’s Films (shown on a loop in the gallery all day and an official screening and Q&A between 5-6pm)

We picked up 2 full bags of litter this weekend on the Dippy. Big thanks to the families who came!

Join at Rodden Nature Reserve TOMORROW (Sun 23rd August). It’ll be a day of exploring and seeing the benefits beavers can bring to our beautiful town. It’ll also be a chance to see how you can get involved with river action!

If you managed to grab some glasses for the partial eclipse, do reuse them for future ones! There is another partial eclipse next year (more “partial” than the one tomorrow) and you can use these glasses again! ♻️
