Would any local Froxfield resident be interested in joining the Parish Council? We have a vacancy for a seventh member of the council. If you would like to get involved in improving your local environment and helping with projects to enhance life in our village, please get in touch with our parish Clerk Lynn Casey-Sturt on [email protected]. We meet every two months and are currently focussing on creating new safe crossing points on the A4 to help connect the two sides of the village.

We have a new village logo! Parish councillor Arran Miles is a talented artist living in the village and she drew a pen portrait of the clock tower at The College - a Froxfield landmark - which incorporated into the new design that also matches our website. It's been a while since we posted on Facebook but here's one bit of recent good news from the Froxfield PC.

Our lovely village was judged to be one of the best-kept in all of Wiltshire by the CPRE. We came 2nd= in the final county-wide judging in the summer.

We had previously scooped the title of Best Kept Village within the Kennet area in the CPRE annual competition and received a certificate for this achievement along with a second certificate celebrated Froxfield coming second-equal in the medium-sized village category across the whole of Wiltshire.

“It must be said that judging the best 4 Medium villages in the county was difficult, as all of them were in very good order. Over two days of walking around villages we barely spotted a single item of litter, which is something all entrants should be very proud of,” judges reported after visiting Froxfield in June.

“Clearly the number one attraction of the village is the Duchess of Somerset Hospital, which is kept in immaculate condition. The grass verge outside the Hospital walls had a multitude of different wild flowers – whether by accident or design we did not know, but they were delightful.”

The College, as the DoS Hospital is better known locally, is maintained by a husband and wife caretakers David and Emma Holborrow. CPRE Kennet Area Co-ordinator Mary Gillmore presented the first certificate to Laurie Caterer, Steward of The College along with David and Emma, and representatives of the residents who worked so hard to create a wonderful environment in their community.

The second certificate was received by the Froxfield Parish Council chair Vanya Body who paid tribute to the contribution of the Community Payback service to helping achieve this award.

The presentations were also attended by two representatives of the Probation Service in Wiltshire which oversees Community Payback teams that carry out a wide range of caretaking jobs around the village —including maintaining the All Saints churchyard and the grounds of the Froxfield Memorial Hall.

Delighted to report that Froxfield has won the first round of the Wiltshire
CPRE Best Kept Village competition.

We were judged the best in our East Wiltshire district in the medium-sized village category and will now go forward for a second round of judging where we are pitted against villages across Wiltshire. A new set of judges will be back, clipboards at the ready, at some point this month (July).

Froxfield Parish Council is looking for a new Clerk starting at the beginning of April. This is a 5-hours a week job. Previously, this has been managed in conjunction with an applicant's existing part-time or full-time job. The pay rate is set by a national body at £11.63 an hour, with some expenses and allowances. This can rise on a scale, depending on training and qualifications undertaken. As Parish Clerk, you are responsible for the management of the PC finances . It is helpful to be familiar with using spreadsheets and taking minutes. A full job description is available by emailing [email protected]. We hope to receive applications by the end of January. Contact me for full details. There is a professional framework for this role and also training and affiliation to a national professional body. It can lead to bigger things if you like this type of administration work. All details are below.
