20TH ANNIVERSARY COMMAND DINNER

Alongside parades and events to mark the 20th anniversary of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment, our reserve officers and NCOs came together at the 4th Battalion command dinner. It was an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on the achievements of the regiment in its time so far. Complete with good food and speeches, the evening was filled with county pride - our reservists, who hail predominantly from Yorkshire, turned out smart and in high spirits to embrace the occasion.

Battlecamp? Completed it ✅

💂‍♂️ This week, we say well done to 8 soldiers returning to us after successfully finishing their Phase 1 training. Their two-week course in Grantham is the culmination of their basic training as reserve soldiers, testing all their learnt skills so far. It ends with a parade, in front of friends and family, marking their 'passing-out' from their training.

💪 Passing-out marks a transition for our troops in their journey as reservists - their efforts so far have been rewarded. Now, their attention turns to their career within the Royal Yorkshire Regiment. As infanteers, they will continue to develop their soldiering skills as they head to ITC Catterick, where they will be further pushed and tested in the 2-week reserve CIC course.

🏆 Congratulations to Pte Dobbs, who won a coveted award as best soldier - for the duration of the 2-week course, his abilities and determination set him above his course peers.

🤝 WELCOME TO 4 ROYAL YORKS 🤝

⚔️ We've recently welcomed some new additions to Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry. These troops begin their journey as part-time soldiers; ahead of them awaits an exciting career that promises new skills and opportunities. For some of the new recruits, this will be completely new, and their future reserve career will begin with basic training to build a strong foundation of soldiering skills which will set them up for success. Others have come to us after an already successful career elsewhere in the forces, and will continue to serve in new ways with us at 4th Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment.

📖 Read about two of these new members of the family:

SGT BURNS - joins us after an already impressive career in the regular army. As a WO1 with the Royal Regiment of Scotland, he reached the pinnacle of his career as a senior soldier. Now in the civilian world, his day job sees him working in environmental risk reduction. He is bound to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the battalion.

PTE SAVILLE - has recently attested into Burma Company, and will now go through reserve basic training. Over the next training year, he will develop as a soldier, through a combination of a 1-week course and two 2-week courses, as well as in house training on our weekly drill nights. The end of this process will see Pte Saville fully specialised as an infanteer, and ready to take part in all that Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry has to offer.

🔨 THE COMMAND POST 🔨

Where decisions are made. But in recent history, Command Posts (CP) have seen a shift towards a more hidden - more deceptive - setup.

Modern warfare dictates that even the most basic of operations are likely to be observed by the enemy. As such, our training must incorporate camouflage and concealment, so that our troops are familiar with the fundamentals of masking their actions whilst on exercise.

On Ex URBAN TEMPEST, the CIS elements of Yorkshire's Reserve Infantry established a concealed CP. This CP was set up in tactical conditions amongst a friendly occupied woodblock. As such, the wider command elements present on the exercise were able to operate from a secure location, providing informed guidance to fighting troops on the ground.
