Galashiels Academy

Galashiels Academy Galashiels Academy is a Scottish secondary school serving Galashiels and the local community. Values, skills and qualifications to be the best we can be.

In Galashiels Academy we believe in ambition and aspiration and working in partnership to produce excellent young people. Our students leave our school with the attributes, skills and qualifications to become outstanding individuals and enhance the communities they will live in and serve. My aim is for all our young people to have pride and ambition in themselves and in our school. We have high ex

pectations of all in our school which we aim to be a place where all pupils and staff feel valued and can learn and achieve. Our school provides excellent levels of support, high levels of learning and teaching, a wide variety of extra-curricular opportunities and experiences and a varied and accessible curriculum. Of our students we expect very high levels of attendance and punctuality and a pride in wearing our school uniform which represents identity and equality. In classes we encourage all our students to be ambitious and to always give of their best in everything they do. We also want our students to believe that making mistakes is part of learning and essential to making progress. I believe strongly in partnership and working together in trust and openness. To parents we ask that you continue to support your children at home and keep in touch with the school. To the local community we would also welcome any support as we develop our young people and deliver a wide and varied curriculum. We value your feedback. If you have a suggestion or if you need any further information, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do everything we can to help. You can also keep up to date by following our Facebook and Twitter pages. Thank you

🚵‍♂️🌲 Back in action! 🌲🚵‍♀️

Following the summer break, our S3 Mountain Bike Course was back on the trails this week! 🙌

This week’s focus was on the importance of line choice. By making a few small adjustments to the lines they took through different sections of trail, our riders were able to see some fantastic improvements in their flow, speed and overall riding. 💨💪

👏 A fantastic effort from everyone involved, with some great progress being made already!

Keep up the great work, S3! 🚵‍♀️🚵‍♂️🔥

It’s been fantastic to welcome everyone back to school over the past couple of weeks! 💙

Our pupils are settling back into school life really well and our new S1 pupils have made a tremendous start. 🌟 It’s been great seeing them getting to know their new routines, making friends and becoming part of the Galashiels Academy community.

📱 Keep an eye on our page for regular updates, news and snapshots of life around the school.

⭐ Active Schools Young Leadership Training Day ⭐️

Last Tuesday the Active Schools team welcomed over 50 young people from across the Borders to our very first Young Leadership Training Day! Held at Inspire Learning and Tweedbank Sports Complex, we brought together our three leadership programmes for a day of team building, training and planning for the year ahead. Well done to our students on their role selection and for once again demonstrating the school values impeccably over the course of the day.

Big thank you to Sportscotland and Scottish Cycling for their input and thought-provoking discussions, which helped pupils plan how they will make a positive impact in their schools and communities going forward.

All our leaders will now be working on their own specific projects / placements back at the Academy over the coming weeks before they head off for Active Schools 2nd leadership training day on 19th October.

S1 to S3 girls netball club - SURVEY

Our Fit For Girls Ambassadors are aiming to see a netball club re-established at the Academy this year. They have already sourced coaches to run this. Now they want to find out the interest levels from S1, S2 and S3 girls to take part!

They have made up a survey to capture interest levels. We have been asking S1 to S3 girls to fill this survey out in PE this week. To make this process as easy as possible though, and get as many views from girls as they can, we have decided to put the QR code for the survey on here. If you are a girl in S1 to S3 please either scan the QR code below or go to https://forms.cloud.microsoft/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=ojLtiWub20G7bzduyPzRHbjvbIHaVlBEuTrUWQxhV-NUQkk5NkJGVzk2QUo3NVBDMUZaTTI4RDc4My4u

If you are a parent/guardian of an S1, S2 or S3 girl then please encourage / support them to fill out this form.

We want to start the netball club next week - so would love for as many surveys to be completed by this coming Friday!
