Enjoy a scenic steam train journey through the countryside to East Tanfield! Every child will receive a complimentary activity sheet, crayon, biscuit & juice to enjoy during the journey.

When you return to the station, The Gruffalo will be waiting to meet families, wave hello, and pose for photos, so don’t forget your camera!

Visitor information Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August. ℹ️

Due to the ongoing exceptionally dry conditions across the railway and surrounding countryside, we will be operating diesel services this Saturday and Sunday, rather than our usual steam service.

The continued dry weather means the risk of lineside fires remains higher than we would normally expect at this time of year. Operating with diesel traction allows us to significantly reduce this risk while ensuring the railway remains open and we can continue to welcome visitors.

Locomotive Roster;

- 1960 built Ribblesdale Cement No. 6 (Both days on the main train)
- 1958 built Tyne Improvement Commission No.35 (Sunday on pre-booked Driver Experiences)

There are no planned changes to the timetable and day rover tickets will remain valid for the full day.

We apologise for any disappointment caused and we appreciate your understanding.
