Ahead of our job evaluation ballot going ahead, it’s time to raise awareness of what our members in schools can do to prepare. From Monday 22nd June, school support staff will be asked to assess if the job evaluation has been conducted correctly for their role. Have a look at this post and see what it means for you!

We've had a brilliant couple of days at UNISON's Local Government conference in sunny Brighton, featuring some great sessions from Andrea Egan and our friends at Show Racism the Red Card. Andrea also highlighted an important part of a union's responsibility: the readiness for industrial action. A win for UNISON…and for you! Those who travel for work will reap the benefit of a new review that has resulted in a 10p per mile increase in tax-free mileage rates. 🚘

The Chancellor announced a 10p per mile increase in tax-free mileage rates, up from the current rate of 45p and backdated to April 2026

It's official: UNISON and the other unions of the NJC Pay Committee have voted to REJECT the poor 3.3% pay increase this financial year. This means we will be balloting whether or not to campaign for industrial action to get the pay rise you all deserve. The ballot will begin on July 9th 2026: Gateshead members should update your details by e-mailing [email protected] to make sure you receive your ballot papers!

Local government unions have rejected the 2026 pay offer and are demanding meaningful pay negotiations in a letter to employers signed by all three unions - UNISON, Unite and GMB.

UNISON are balloting members for strike action from 9 July.
