We can't wait for 3rd July - an event not to be missed if you're working in, or interested in, the world of food insecurity in the North East.

*From Crisis to Resilience: Feeding Britain’s National Network Gathering*

Feeding Britain has chosen to host its annual network gathering in the North East this year. With speakers and attendees from organisations across the UK, this is a valuable opportunity to showcase the region’s commitment to reducing food insecurity and reliance on emergency food aid, while learning from policy, practice, and research from projects nationwide. The day will feature a range of workshops and talks from across the Feeding Britain network, covering topics such as food supply and sustainability, children’s food provision, wraparound support, how frontline charities can influence policy, and wider discussions on moving “beyond foodbanks”.

North East leaders in this field will be speaking, including Alice Wiseman MBE, Professor Greta Defeyter OBE and Andrew Forsey OBE from Feeding Britain, Wayne Dobson from Feeding Families, Edie from St Chads Community Project, Claire Estall from Communities Together Durham and Amy from Food Durham, and our Nikki from Gateshead Food Partnership. There will also be visitors from across the UK who will share their inspiring journeys of reducing the need for emergency food aid in their areas.

Date: 3rd July 2026
Time: The event will start at 10:15am (with the venue open from 9:45am) and run until 3:30pm. The venue will also stay open until 4:00pm for those who would like to network with other partners.
Location: Urban Sciences Building, Newcastle University, 1 Science Square, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 5TG.

The Pickle Palace CIO are thinking about bringing back recipe bags, with ingredients and instructions for making meals. Can you help by filling in their quick survey to help shape what the bags look like?

Last year our Recipe Bags were really popular, and we’re planning to bring them back in the next few months as an updated service. We’re combining our previous Staple Bag and Recipe Bag into one, all-in-one, option to help keep costs down, reach more people, and make the service more affordable....

Can you support Gateshead town centre’s community food festival? 🎪

On Sunday 2 August, Gateshead town centre will be transformed into a community food festival with a Cook Off event, hot food stalls, children’s activities, live demonstrations and more.

To support the day to be a success for Gateshead residents and visitors, organisations and community groups are invited to get involved.

It would be great if our Food Partnership members could showcase their expertise on cooking healthy, nutritious food while celebrating diverse tastes and cultures at the events.

We’re looking for:

• Organisations interested in entering a Community Cook Off team (friendly contest of 12 teams – BBQ equipment provided!)
• Groups or individuals who want to host a food stall
• Anyone wishing to run a cookery demonstration or share cultural food traditions
• People who would like to be involved in any of the above across the three sites

If interested, please complete the Expression of Interest at https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/rFVRqvKTpH

Thank you! 🫶
