Medway Maritime Hospital treats around 400,000 patients each year mainly in Medway and Swale, but increasingly other parts of North and West Kent too. Everyday we see around 1,400 outpatients, about 250 patients use our emergency department and approximately 150 patients need to be admitted for hospital care and treatment. The range of specialist services we offer have grown over recent years, as

have the communities we serve, bringing to Medway services which in the past, patients have had to travel miles for. This includes the cardiac catheter suite, West Kent Vascular Centre, West Kent Centre for Urology, and the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit.

Did you know we have a library trolley service for patients at Medway?

Funded by Medway Hospital Charity and relaunched last year after a 25-year gap, the service is supported by volunteers like Nick Miles, who visits wards each week with a selection of books for patients to enjoy during their stay.

Nick joined the service after seeing an appeal for volunteers and book donations and wanting to give something back to his local hospital.

A year on, he was named Volunteer of the Year at the Medway Annual Star Awards last month. 👏

A warm welcome to our newest foundation doctors! 👋

On Sunday, we welcomed our new Foundation Year 1 doctors through our Medway induction programme and the Simway Hospital experience.

Simway Hospital provides an immersive, realistic and psychologically safe environment where doctors can build confidence, develop practical skills and prepare for the realities of clinical practice before stepping onto the wards.

This week, they have started their first NHS roles, and we are proud to support them as they begin this important chapter. Our Foundation Year 2 doctors are also taking on new responsibilities as they continue their training.

Wishing all our new and progressing doctors every success for the year ahead. 🌟☺️
