Medway NHS Foundation Trust

Medway NHS Foundation Trust This is the official page of Medway NHS Foundation Trust (Not 24/7). Includes news, updates and information from Medway Maritime Hospital.

Medway Maritime Hospital treats around 400,000 patients each year mainly in Medway and Swale, but increasingly other parts of North and West Kent too. Everyday we see around 1,400 outpatients, about 250 patients use our emergency department and approximately 150 patients need to be admitted for hospital care and treatment. The range of specialist services we offer have grown over recent years, as

have the communities we serve, bringing to Medway services which in the past, patients have had to travel miles for. This includes the cardiac catheter suite, West Kent Vascular Centre, West Kent Centre for Urology, and the Macmillan Cancer Care Unit.

We recently had a visit from the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dame Sarah Mullally, which brought a special reunion for Matron Sharon Molloy. 🥰

Sharon and Archbishop Sarah first worked together 37 years ago at the former Westminster Hospital, where Sharon began her nurse training. Sharon said: “She gave me the first step on the ladder in my nursing career. She recognised me and said she would always remember my smile.”

The Archbishop was with us as part of a wider pastoral visit within the Diocese of Rochester, spending time with patients, colleagues and our Chaplaincy Team.

She also shared her deep gratitude for NHS staff and the important role our chaplaincy team plays across the hospital. 💙

💙 NHS Medway Maritime Hospital clock tower, lit up blue to help shine a light on CSF leaks, a condition that is still too often misunderstood or missed.

Richard is at the hospital to raise awareness of CSF leaks. After nearly two years without answers, his life-changing diagnosis was finally recognised here.

✨ Thank you, Richard, and Medway NHS Foundation Trust for helping raise awareness and drive change.

🌟A huge congratulations to our Surgical Medical Acute Recovery Team (SMART).🌟

They were crowned winners of the Delivering Value Award at the NHS Excellence Awards! 😍

Our Virtual Hospital is transforming how patients are safely cared for, supported by advanced remote‑monitoring technology, daily virtual ward rounds, and rapid escalation when needed. This award recognises the team’s success in delivering safe, effective care outside a traditional ward.

This is a fantastic achievement and very well deserved. 👏

It's Thankful Thursday and this week we'd like to say a massive thank you to teams from mhs homes for continuing to improve our Eliot Ward Garden.

Darren and Jackie were joined by other camera shy colleagues and they recently planted hydrangeas and lavender donated by Jewsons.

Jewsons also donated a wooden picnic bench for the space.

Thank you mhs homes group and Jewsons for this amazing support. We really do appreciate it.🥰
