As part of Play in Healthcare Week, we're celebrating the incredible work of our Play Specialists, who help make hospital experiences less daunting and more positive for children and young people.
One of those specialists is Annie Huxtable, affectionately known as 'Auntie Annie'. Working within the Children's Outreach and Specialist Team (COAST), Annie has become a much-loved figure among families across Medway and Swale.
She supports children living with a range of complex conditions, including diabetes, respiratory illnesses and cancer, as well as those requiring continuing care.
No two days are the same, Annie explains: "I could be supporting a child with a blood test, keeping them occupied while parents speak to doctors, running Teddy Hospital or pathology tours, or mentoring other play specialists.
"For me, it's about how I can help children get the treatment they need as painlessly as possible."
Annie's dedication to supporting children and families was recognised earlier this year when she was named a finalist in our Hospital Hero Awards.
