When you work in a school like Gretton School, you see every day how powerful the right environment can be for autistic young people. So when our residential provision was rated Outstanding for the fifth consecutive year earlier this year, it felt like a moment worth reflecting on - not just celebrating.

Since sharing the news, we’ve spent time thinking about what “Outstanding” really means in practice: the relationships, consistency, trust, and everyday moments that help young people feel safe enough to thrive.

In the next issue of Autism Eye, we’ll be exploring that reflection in more detail and sharing what sits behind the rating, beyond the headline itself.

At Gretton School, every voice matters 💬

Our Rectory Student Council have been working hard behind the scenes - creating, designing, and building a brand-new display board to share ideas, updates, and learner voices across the school.

This morning, it was time to bring it all together and get the display set up! ✨

Alongside other schools within Cavendish Education, Gretton School invited visitors as part of a wider visit across our family of schools to speak with learners about their experiences.

The first theme explored was 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 & 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 🎉

It was wonderful to hear directly from learners about what success looks like for them, the progress they are making, and the things they are most proud of during their time with us.

We are looking forward to sharing more from the next themes soon!

Recently, our learners and staff took part in a fantastic steel drum workshop by Steel Pan Trust! 🥁🎶

Throughout the day, we learnt different tunes, practised together, and even performed as a group. It was such a fun opportunity to spend time with people we don’t always get to see every day, connect with each other, and enjoy something new together.

With it being Mental Health Awareness Week, it felt like the perfect reminder of how important it is to make time for things that bring us joy 💙

So here’s your reminder: make sure to give yourself time to do something you enjoy - no matter how big or small! ✨
