🧪 Meet Matthew, a six-year-old from Greenock who has become the first child in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to go behind the scenes of our hospital laboratories.

After impressing staff with his curiosity about what happens to blood samples once they are taken, Matthew was invited to take part in the first Harvey's Lab Tour at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital campus.

During his visit Matthew, who attends the Royal Hospital for Children as an outpatient, followed the journey of a blood sample through the laboratory, met biomedical scientists, learned how samples are tested, and discovered the important role laboratory teams play in patient care. He even received his own lab coat and scientist bear.

Harvey's Lab Tours help children and families better understand their healthcare journey, reducing anxiety and building confidence by showing what happens behind the scenes.

After the tour, Matthew said: “It was amazing and special, I loved it.”

Our adult neuro-oncology service at the Institute of Neurological Sciences has been named a Tessa Jowell Centre of Excellence, recognising the outstanding work our staff do every day to care for people with brain tumours.

And there’s even more to celebrate. With our children’s neuro-oncology service already holding the designation, both adult and paediatric services on the QEUH campus are now recognised as Tessa Jowell Centres of Excellence.

Thousands of patients are benefiting from an approach to glaucoma care across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde 👁️

By working with community optometrists and introducing virtual review clinics, many patients can now receive routine glaucoma monitoring closer to home, while specialist hospital appointments remain available for those who need them most.

So far, more than 3,000 patients have been seen through the virtual glaucoma pathway, helping improve access to care and reduce waiting times.

Preventing homelessness is everyone’s business.

Whether you’re a patient worried about where you’ll live when you leave hospital, struggling with money, facing difficulties at home, or simply worried about your or a loved one's housing, you shouldn’t have to wait until you reach crisis point before getting help.

At NHSGGC, we're ideally placed to spot when someone may be struggling and help connect them with the right support.

This , we’re highlighting the help available across Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and reminding people that homelessness rarely happens overnight. Getting advice and support early can make a real difference.

It’s a chance to raise awareness of mental health issues and signpost to support for anyone who’s struggling 💚

NHSGGC provides a range of services to support your mental health, but it’s important you:

🔎 Can spot the early signs of mental health concerns
💪 Know how to self-manage them
🤝 Know where to turn for more help

📱 MyApp: My Mental Health offers digital support for all three at the times when you might be struggling but you’re still getting by. It covers the most common mental health topics, from anxiety to suicidal thoughts, and gives you guidance on managing symptoms and signposts to additional support if things get worse.

🌱 Taking action to support your mental health doesn’t always have to mean big changes.

One small step like checking MyApp can give you self-guided support to explore in your own time, for you or someone you care about ❤️
