Auld Glenrothes

Auld Glenrothes This page is all about the history of the land and the towns of Glenrothes, Leslie, and Markinch, which all occupy it.

This page is dedicated to the history of land and the towns of Glenrothes, Leslie, and Markinch. Centuries before Glenrothes was ever built, the land was made up of farms with rugged, prime, natural, agricultural land as far as the eye could see going back to the time of the Picts and beyond. Glenrothes was built right in the middle of intersecting land that belonged to the parishes of Leslie, Mar

kinch, Thornton, and Kinglassie, which then made parts of the parishes being dissolved into Glenrothes, e.g. Stenton farm and its land, that belonged to Thornton, became the housing precinct of Stenton, Glenrothes. Auchmuty Farm of Markinch, became the precinct of Auchmuty, Glenrothes. The same with all the precinct and street names that all came from their original parishes they belonged to. This page is jam packed with photographs and info of the parishes and from before Glenrothes was even an idea yet to be built. I feel it is important to preserve the history of the land, to look at THE towns now, its as if that time in the lands history never happened. I hope this page will catch local peoples interest in the towns and the lands history.
