Roadworks Admiralty Riad/A921 - Posted before about the resurfacing works and active travel route project on Admiralty Road in Inverkeithing. They seem to have gotten off to a slow start albeit the project is due to last potentially six weeks. And yes they aren't removing all the signs when the works are not being undertaken (have raised that). Have been asked for a map showing the extent of the works and find that is below for the improved travel path.

Former IHS Site Fencing Relocation - Just had a lunch time site meeting with senior officers and ward councillors to discuss moving the fencing which surrounds most of the school grounds on the former HS site. Officers have agreed to realign the fencing so that it is nearer to the actual school building which will reopen the grounds around the school for community use again. They have asked for a couple of weeks to produce plans and put in place management arrangements and then the fences will be moved. So hopefully an end in sight. I think that officers were over cautious (for good reason) when the fencing was put in but at that point the building was not fully secured but hopefully that will soon be fixed.
Officers also indicated that Historic Environment Scotland (HES) have agreed in principle to the demolition of three of the smaller buildings on the site which will required formal listed building consents so they could be gone in several months.

Inverkeithing Leisure Centre – Majority support eastern site - People might recall that the Council launched a consultation during July asking people to express their preference for locating the new ILC on wither the western or eastern part of the former Inverkeithing High School site.
The council has still to formally publish the detailed results but the feedback I have seen shows majority support for the new centre being located at the eastern end of the former IHS site.
The vote was even clearer when the votes of those who didn’t have a preference were taken into account.
I support that decision. For me east was best but I think it is important that when we ask people to express a view that we act on what they say.
There will be a paper going to Fife Council’s Cabinet in September but we just need to get on and get this project started given we have the site and the funding.

New Caledonia High School - Today teaching staff have their first formal working day at the new Caledonia High School in Rosyth. The new £88 million state-of-the-art Passivhaus high school was completed pretty much on budget and on schedule. I've supported the project as part of the current Fife Council administration and at the local SWF Area Committee. This will make a massive difference to teachers and the 1,700 students that will have their first day at the school on Wednesday. Great to get things done!

UPDATE - Inverkeithing Town House and Public Realm – One of my biggest frustrations as a councillor has been the on-going delays with both the delivery of the Town House and Public Realm projects in Inverkeithing. Difficult to see how investing £4.7 million from various funding partners in the regeneration of one of Scotland’s most historic royal burghs could take so long to complete. Attended a meeting of the of the liaison group involving project officers and councillors and a couple of developments –

The Town House – it would appear that Fife Council building services team will be stepping in to complete the required works to get the Town House open. Tose will start “September at the earliest.” Contrary to local belief am told FC were not involved in the Town House building works. It was a private contractor.

Public Realm – Thus is on-going but Fife Council have now agreed with the contractor what works still need to be done and agreed how these will happen. That includes the Mercat Cross being completed and we were told that the stones for the seating area around the Cross are being cut. I am going to resist the urge to say when those works will start.

Sorry for the time this has taken to resolve and for the disruption caused. I am clear these projects need to be finished.

Major Roadworks - Admiralty Road, Inverkeithing - Have been waiting for news of these planned works starting. For six weeks overnight from 31 August from Chapel Place onto the A921 at Inverkeithing. Works will be overnight so disruption to road vehicles will be limited but works also include upgrading the active travel route/path so some disruption is inevitable including for traffic heading to an from the M90 east, No consolation at this point but the two projects probably represent an investment of £700K plus. Just an early warning.

Walking Routes - Caledonia High School – TO BE REASSESSED - I seem to have spent a lot of time pursuing concerns about the safety and distance of the walking routes from Inverkeithing to the new Caledonia High School in Rosyth. There was a review panel meeting of councillor this morning to look at the routes which have been identified. The panel decided to ask officers to reassess the routes given that information relating to safety issues and other detail was missing from the earlier assessments. That exercise will take place next week involving officers and the panel will meet again to make a final decision on the issues. A welcome outcome but given we are close to the start of the new school session it would have been useful to have had these issues dealt with when they were first highlighted a couple of months ago.

Caledonia High School Walking Routes – One issue I have been pursuing since April is information about the walking routes that pupils from Inverkeithing will be expected to use to get to and from the new Caledonia High School in Rosyth.
Having contacted various education services officers a couple of weeks ago I got access to the detailed maps showing the boundary line detail within which kids are expected to walk and out with (green) in which they qualify for free school transport (if over two miles).
I still have questions and have now written to the Education Director asking for a meeting to try and clear some of those up.
This needs to be cleared up before the start of the new school session.

Inverkeithing Leisure Centre - Have Your Say! Just a reminder to share your view on the location of the new £19 million Leisure Centre that will be built by Fife Council in Inverkeithing. More details at the link below but my preference is for as near as you can get to a fresh start with the new facility being built at the east end of the former IHS site (option B) and away from the current buildings which due to being listed may be there for some time.
