| A man who was banned from the Co-op has been jailed after breaching his Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) and committing several shop thefts in Glossop.

Raymond Skelly was given a Criminal Behaviour Order in April 2025, which prohibited him from entering the Co-op, Pennine Way, Simmondley, Glossop. However, on 16 May 2026, he breached this order by entering the store and stealing items worth more than £70.

On the same day, the 47-year-old went into Iceland, Spring Gardens, Buxton and stole items valued at £75.

Two days later, he went into B&M, Norfolk Street, Glossop, which he was banned from entering under his CBO and stole a number of items.

At Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 23 May, Skelly, of Greenbank, Hadfield, pleaded guilty to three counts of theft and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order. He was subsequently jailed for 16 weeks.

He also breached the conditions of his licence following release from prison for previous offences and has been recalled to prison as a result.

Skelly remains subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order, which is in force until April 2027. The order bans him from entering Tesco and Boots in Hadfield, the Co-op in Simmondley, as well as any other shop from which he has been prohibited. He must also leave any shop or commercial premises in the UK if asked to do so by staff.

Sergeant Patrick Haley from Glossop and Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Team said:

"Skelly was dealt with for similar offences in April and despite being sent to prison on that occasion, his pattern of offending has clearly continued on his release.

"The message just doesn't seem to be getting through to him, so we will continue to arrest him and deal with him whenever he breaches these conditions and commits offences.

"We'd therefore urge the public to let us know if Skelly breaks any of the conditions of his CBO so we can make sure he is brought to justice.

“We will continue to take action against shop theft in the area and work closely with local businesses.”

GOOD NEWS THURSDAY

Meet Benny – our four-legged friend who definitely isn’t a fan of thunder! ⛈️💨

Frightened by the storm, poor Benny decided to make a run for it this morning.

While out on the A6, one of our officers spotted him on his unexpected solo adventure.

Not wanting him to come to any harm, the officer opened the passenger door… and Benny didn’t hesitate—he hopped straight in and made himself right at home! 🚓🐶

After enjoying a few hours of VIP treatment at the police station (and soaking up plenty of fuss and attention, of course!), we were able to track down his owners.

We’re delighted to say Benny is now safely back where he belongs—with his family! 🏡❤️

Bonnie – A Good News Story

Whilst on duty last week, PCSO Bardsley and PCSO Turner were flagged down by a member of the public in Little Hayfield. He was walking with his dog, Bonnie, who had unfortunately sustained a mild injury and was limping.

Her owner, Joe, had carried Bonnie for over 10 miles. With no battery left on his phone and being unfamiliar with the area, he had become completely lost and worried about Bonnie.

It transpired that Joe and Bonnie were out training for Joe's incredible challenge—running 10 marathons in 10 days to raise money for his daughter’s charity, the Maia Mouse Foundation. It also marked 10 years since he tragically lost his daughter Maia to a rare life-limiting condition, just before her first birthday.

PCSO Bardsley and PCSO Turner assisted by placing Bonnie (and Joe!) in the police vehicle to warm up before safely transporting them home. They were warmly welcomed by Joe’s three children, who were delighted by the unexpected chance to sit in a police car.

The following day, we received a lovely email from Joe. Bonnie had recovered well, although both she and Joe were understandably a little tired. He expressed his sincere gratitude for the officers' help.

We wish you the very best of luck with your challenge, Joe!

Over the past weekend in the High Peak, 21 vehicles were seized due to dangerous and inconsiderate parking. Several of our beauty spots have been swarmed with poor, inconsiderate parking which has caused danger not only to road users, but to emergency services, who would be unable to get through if needed.
While we want everyone to enjoy visiting the area, we ask that you plan ahead before travelling. Please take the time to research your destination and identify appropriate, designated car parks to ensure your visit is safe and enjoyable for everyone.

• Manor Park
• Gamesley Woods Trail

Every weapon removed is a step towards preventing harm and making our neighbourhoods safer. If you have concerns about knife crime, please contact us or report anonymously via Crimestoppers.

Community Update – Snake Pass (Glossop to Bamford)

I would like to provide an update alongside our ongoing duties and operational demands. Over recent months, we have seen an increase in anti-social behaviour along the Snake Pass between Glossop and Bamford.

As the weather becomes warmer and the evenings get lighter, we know that the Peak District attracts an increasing number of visitors. We want everyone to enjoy this beautiful area; however, we ask that all visitors do so safely and within the law.

We are working in partnership with the National Trust, High Peak Borough Council, and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service regarding the continued deterioration of the Snake Woodlands, caused by irresponsible camping and fires. This remains a significant concern, particularly following the large wildfire that affected a substantial area of land in this location.

This weekend and the throughout the summer, officers will be maintaining a high-visibility presence along the Snake Pass. They will be engaging with members of the public and taking action where necessary to address any behaviour that impacts the safety of others or the environment.
