Step 4 of a Fire Risk Assessment: record your findings, plan and train ✅

Once risks have been identified and reduced, it’s time to record what you’ve found and the actions taken. Make sure you have a clear emergency plan so everyone knows what to do if there’s a fire, including roles and responsibilities 🚒

Staff should receive regular fire safety training and take part in fire drills, with temporary staff and contractors included. Fire safety measures should also be maintained and kept in good working order.

Create an action plan for any remaining risks, outlining what needs to be done, who’s responsible and when it will be completed.

Next up: Step 5 – reviewing and updating your fire risk assessment.

🚨 Don’t forget – it’s !

Take a minute today to press the test button on your smoke alarm until it sounds.
No sound? It could be time to check the battery or replace the alarm.

⚠️ Even if it works, make sure your alarm is still in date. We often find alarms that “pass the test” but are years out of date – giving a false sense of security.

✅ A quick test and check today could save your life tomorrow.

Battery safety is something that can't be overlooked, especially with children in the home.

Take a moment to read this important advice from SkillZONE this 👇

How flat is your battery? 🔋
Even a used button battery can cause life-altering injuries. If swallowed, these small lithium cells can burn through a child's food pipe in as little as two hours.

Don’t leave them lying around—make recycling a part of your weekly routine with these three simple steps:

Store safely: Keep used batteries in a secure box, well out of reach of little hands.

Grab and go: Keep your battery box near your reusable shopping bags.

Recycle: Drop them into the dedicated battery recycling bins at your local supermarket.

Protect your family and the environment by ensuring used batteries stay out of your home and out of the bin.

🛥️ With half term underway and more people enjoying time on the water, it’s a great moment to think about boat fire safety.

Make sure your boat is fitted with working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, and regularly check fuel, gas and electrical systems for any signs of damage or leaks.

🧯 Take time to locate your fire blankets and extinguishers, and make sure you know how to use them.

If you smell gas, switch off the supply immediately and have it inspected.
🚨 Concerns about electrics? Turn off the power and get it checked by a professional.

Just like at home, keep anything flammable well away from cookers and hobs.

🚶‍♀️ And always have a clear escape plan in place, so everyone knows what to do if a fire breaks out.
