A honeybee colony is not a swarm of identical workers. It is a society, with clearly defined roles that each individual moves through over the course of its short life. 🐝

Six roles, one colony:

Queen: the only egg-layer in the colony. She lays a substantial number of eggs daily and lives 3 to 5 years while a worker lives 4 to 6 weeks. Her pheromones regulate the behaviour and mood of the entire colony.

Drone (male): no sting, no foraging, no guard duty. The sole purpose of a drone is to mate with a queen from another colony. In late summer, workers eject drones from the hive before winter.

Nurse bee: a young worker with active royal jelly glands. She feeds larvae and the queen. This role lasts the first two weeks of a worker's life before the glands become inactive.

Guard bee: detects intruders at the hive entrance using pheromone recognition. A guard that stings dies — the sting tears away from the abdomen.

Forager: the oldest worker bees, in the last weeks of their lives. They collect nectar, pollen, and water. A single forager visits a large number of flowers in one trip and contributes a small amount of honey over its lifetime.

Wax worker: cleans cells, processes nectar into honey, and fans the combs to regulate hive temperature and evaporate moisture from the nectar to the correct water content for honey. 🍯

🚨 Community Update – Lobleys Drive Play Area & Skate Park 🚨

Further damage has been reported at the Play Area, Skate Park and Multi-Use Games Area at Lobleys Drive, Hucclecote.

Unfortunately, the actions of a small minority are affecting facilities used and enjoyed by the whole community. Recent issues identified include:

• Offensive graffiti on play equipment, which will be removed and repainted.
• Broken lamp covers and glass around the skate park, which is being cleared as a priority.
• A missing fence panel and another panel left unsecured in the Multi-Use Games Area, both of which will be repaired.
• Damage to the concrete edging of the skate ramp, which has been prioritised for repair.

Tewkesbury Borough Council will be carrying out repairs and maintenance works over the coming days and weeks.

Please help us keep these facilities safe and enjoyable for everyone by reporting any vandalism or anti-social behaviour to the Police.

Thank you

One Community, One Voice for Coopers Edge

You Are Invited to a Community Meeting
📍 Coopers Edge Community Centre
📅 Saturday 30 May
🕙 10:00 am

Come along to hear about the work of the Coopers Edge Liaison Committee and the proposal to create a new parish council for Coopers Edge.

Coopers Edge is currently split across 3 parishes and 2 district councils. This can be confusing — even neighbours can fall under different areas.

💡The Idea Is Simple - to bring Coopers Edge together as one parish, with its own parish council representing the whole community.

What Could a Coopers Edge Parish Council Do?
1️⃣Listen to Local People
A council that hears your views and represents our community.

2️⃣Help Parks and Play Areas
Look after green spaces and play areas for everyone to enjoy.

3️⃣Support Clubs and Groups
Provide grants and support for local clubs, events, and community groups.

4️⃣A Strong Voice for Coopers Edge
Make sure our community’s views are heard loud and clear.
