It is great to see such strong interest in active travel across Gloucestershire, and the opening of the A435 Cycle Spine will help build on that momentum.

Roll & Stroll 2026 saw 93 workplaces register for the challenge, 85 workplaces log a ride and more than 21,931 transport miles recorded. These are real everyday journeys that support healthier lifestyles, reduce short car trips and help create more connected communities.

We officially marked the opening of the A435 Cheltenham to Bishop’s Cleeve Cycle Spine in Gloucestershire, a major step forward in giving people safer, healthier and greener travel choices.

It was fantastic to see Chris Boardman CBE attend and support the opening of this important route. The new cycleway is more than just infrastructure, it is about helping people make everyday journeys by bike, e-bike, cargo bike, e-scooter, walking and wheeling with more confidence.

For me, this is what active travel is all about, creating practical routes that connect communities, support families, reduce short car journeys and make healthier travel feel possible for more people.

A big thank you to everyone involved in delivering the scheme and to all partners who came along to support the event.
