Response from the petition that proposed the prioritisation of Lynch Road on the highways 4-year rolling plan. I would say that this is a big win for those who live in Berkeley and who use this road on an almost daily basis.

Thank you to all those who signed the petition and helped make this happen. Though I would of liked it to of happened this financial year, that was never going to happen however having it done next financial year is the best result I could of hoped for.

This evening, a briefing on the current situation of Local Government Reorganisation has revealed the damages that it will cause in the short-term. Currently, £44+ million is the expected deficit that will hit the councils by 2030, with Gloucestershire County Council taking £19 million of that figure and Stroud District Council taking a further £8.8 million.

And this is just the projected costs, it could cost much more, and the national government has decided that we will only receive £900k across the entire county.

And now that LGR has been paused. It might be the case that it will be cancelled in the future. That is a huge cost to the taxpayer that has the chance to do nothing. Imagine what could be done to help improve our areas if this money was redistributed into highways or SEND services.

The outlined savings are expected to offput those expenses long term, however that is only if it goes ahead. An update is expected in the week commencing October 12th.

Today is Full Council at the GCC which has given me the opportunity to hand in a petition to the cabinet that calls for the prioritisation on resurfacing Lynch Road’s road surface and pathway in the 4-year rolling plan. Though recently some work on this road was complete to improve the road surface, it still needs replacing along with the pathway which is become unusable. Hopefully this will start the process to major improvements in the area.

I will be postponing the Cam Valley Summer Clean Up due to the forecasted high temperatures. I will provide an update as to when I will start it. Please feel free to still send over any problematic areas that need attention.

CAM VALLEY SUMMER CLEAN UP

From July 13th to July 19th, I plan to be out from 11am to 3pm to be out doing small jobs around Cam Valley such as w**d pulling, hedge trimming and other similar works. I ask anyone who has an area of concern to send over anything you feel needs attention. Please send any photos or what3words locations for these problem areas.

I also ask if there is anyone willing to volunteer to come out with me and do these jobs. The more people who help, the more jobs we can complete and the better we can make the area look! I look forward to hearing from you!

I will be at Lynch Road this Saturday (June 27th) at 10am to meet and discuss with locals about the current state of the road surface and pathway. I will be joined by Cllr Ray Donaghue -Reform UK Gloucestershire, the Shadow Cabinet Member for Highways to here what you have to say. I will also be bringing along a petition in which I plan to take to the next full council meeting at the GCC to send Lynch Road to the top of the list for roads in Cam Valley for the rolling plan from next financial year. This is the earliest the job can be brought forward.

I will be at the entrance to Hook Street, outside Berkeley Vale Park so if you want to try and get this road sorted ASAP, I highly recommend coming. I look forward to seeing many of you there!

🚨 BREAKING: MAJOR REFORM UK VICTORIES FOR GLOUCESTERSHIRE HIGHWAYS! 🚨

The community partnership motion (Motion 998)—proposed by me—has officially PASSED at full council!

For too long, our roads and pathways have suffered from underfunding, leaving a frustrating gap between the highways department and the local people who just want things fixed. This motion changes that by giving local communities, parish councils, and volunteers the power to step up and make a real difference.

What does this mean for you?
We are cutting through the red tape to allow community-led action on minor highway issues, including:

🌳 Hedge cutting
🧹 Path cleaning
🌱 W**d pulling

🛣️ Setting up local pilot schemes to see what works best before a county-wide rollout.

🤝 Cross-Party Collaboration & Urban Accountability
To make sure no community is left behind, we worked collaboratively across the chamber. We accepted a vital amendment from the Liberal Democrats to ensure the high-density urban needs of Gloucester City and Cheltenham Town are fully recognised, demanding an urgent reconvening of city estimate meetings.
