Today is polling day in Thrupp. If you want change and an end to the Green mess that they left behind with terrible roads, reduction in services and plans to pave over our wonderful countryside with unscrutinised housing developments (I thought they were supposed to be in favor of protecting the environment!) then vote for Reform UK!

Best wishes,

Cllr Michael Rees - Reform UK

A fabulous day out today in Thrupp leafleting for the upcoming by election! Even the sun decided it was going to show up. A massive thank you to those who came out in support today, I hope our efforts don’t go to waste.

On a more serious note, one of our volunteers was verbally abused and had a leaflet they delivered thrown at them. This behavior is unacceptable and shows off the current political climate and how having opposing opinions can result in violence. I hope everyone can join me in saying that these actions do not belong in our community.

I hope everyone has an amazing weekend!

Best wishes,

Today I was asked to come out to take a look at the state of the roads in Berkeley and Wanswell and I must say, I am astonished at how bad it has got!

Our roads resemble the surface of the moon, and having seen other problems in Cam, something urgently needs to be done. Unfortunately, due to changes in the budget, my local highways budget has been cut by 66% which takes away my ability to choose what I wish to be done in our area where this now takes precedence.

In the budget meeting yesterday, the calls from myself and those in the Reform group to cut wasteful spending on nonsensical Net Zero pledges fell upon deaf ears. We as a county produce just 1% of the countries emissions and as a country, we produce just 1% of worldwide emissions. A minuscule amount of emissions to which our administration wants to throw millions at while Russia and China keep ramping up their emissions. At the same time, they choose to grow our debt by borrowing £15 million which now means the council has borrowed more money compared to the value of its cash assets, a concerning step which risks falling into financial instability, just like the Gloucester City Council is dealing with, also ran by the Liberal Democrats.

It’s disgraceful, and needs to be called out as much. And with the way the council now works with motions at full council, we aren’t able to properly scrutinise through motions until the summer. This is blatantly anti-democratic, and has resulted in the Green Party, the third largest party, having more say in the chamber than the official opposition. What a joke!!

If this road quality is what we can expect from this administration while debts climb, then the unitary elections couldn’t come any quicker.

A massive thank you to the gentlemen who invited me out, I hope I don’t let you down in tackling this mess.

Best wishes,

Cllr Michael Rees - Reform UK

Thank you to both Cllr Ray Donaghue -Reform UK Gloucestershire and the other volunteers who came out today. Met some lovely constituents and have seen just how bad the roads and pathways are in the area. Of course this wouldn’t come under my responsibilities on the District however it shows what happens to our infrastructure when left in the hands of the Greens. If you want change, vote for change on March 5th, vote for Reform UK!

Best wishes,

Cllr Michael Rees - Reform UK

🚨 LIB DEM BUDGET EXPOSED — REFORM UK PUTS FORWARD THE ONLY SERIOUS ALTERNATIVE 🚨
Gloucestershire deserves better than a budget built on misallocated funds, failed priorities, and punishing the very people who hold our county together.
While the Liberal Democrats push ahead with plans to raid ring‑fenced Public Health money for 20mph zones, underfund flooding defences, ignore soaring SEND transport costs, and even charge carers to park, Reform UK is taking a stand.
Road traffic incidents only make up a small proportion of total A&E attendances (typically low single-digit percentages)
Today we’ve put forward a fully costed, practical, common‑sense amendment package that delivers:
✅ £5 million in safeguarded funding
✅ A path to multi‑million SEND transport savings
✅ Real flood prevention — dredging, emergency gully clearance and drainage upgrades
✅ Support for local food & drink businesses
✅ Scrapping the Carers’ Parking Charge — because taxing compassion is shameful
✅ Stronger roads & infrastructure
✅ A new Financial Risk Reserve to finally tackle the SEND deficit responsibly
The Lib Dem budget is glossy on the surface, reckless underneath.
Ours is focused and delivers for residents.
Gloucestershire can’t afford more empty promises.
It needs action.
It needs competence.
It needs Reform.

The government have now started the process of public consultation for Local Government Organisation. If you want to make sure that your voice is heard, please click on the link at the bottom of this post. The options are to chose between a single unitary authority, an east/west split and a greater Gloucester split.

From a massive puddle and mud building up all along the area, to a clean path and all the tarmac exposed! This job took myself and a fantastic volunteer 90 minutes to get done and what an improvement it is. With a small channel dug down into the ditch, water should be less likely to build up on the path so should now be safer for pedestrians to walk. I will warn though that it may still be slightly slippery as we had no way of removing all the mud from the surface, leaving a thin layer behind so do walk with caution until the rain comes in and washes it away.

Now this path is once again usable and pedestrians will no longer have to either walk out into a busy road or tread carefully along a slippery verge. I would like to hit some more areas that need attention and I ask those in Berkeley especially if there is any pathways you think needs some work.

Have a great rest of your week everyone!

Best wishes,

Cllr Michael Rees

This morning, I spent a few hours with a couple of neighbors clearing up the pathway that leads from the Boots pharmacy to the Surgery and GL11 in Cam. We removed the leaves, cut back the vines, removed multiple weeds and even uncovered some curb stones along one side. We finished it off by pressure washing the entire path and I must say, it has come out looking amazing.

Though the job we did brought compliments from locals walking through, there are still issue. More specifically, the trees on the pharmacy side are causing the wall below to collapse and the roots are pulling up the pavement. I hope to get these trees removed to allow for the wall to be rebuilt.

A big thank you to the two gentlemen who helped and provided equipment for the job, it was great to work with you!

If anyone has any suggestions for area that would need this sort of work, please feel free to reach and I’ll see if I can find time to do it.

An absolute honour and privilege to be invited to visit The Jenner Museum in Berkeley yesterday. Learning about the impact of the philanthropic Dr. Edward Jenner on the jumps in medical progression thanks to his work on vaccines which lead to the eradication of Smallpox on May 8th 1980 was amazing. To think such an important and life changing invention was created within the small town of Berkeley is humbling and I am forever greatful for my position.

The museum is very educational and I encourage everyone and anyone to visit the museum when they re-open their doors in the Spring. They are currently working towards the 50th anniversary of the eradication of Smallpox for 2030 and they are setting up plans to gain funding to spruce the building up in time for this celebration.

I wish everyone an amazing week!

Best wishes,
