Godalming Town Council is recruiting for a Deputy Chief Executive Officer.
This is an exciting leadership role supporting the Chief Executive Officer and helping to lead the delivery of high-quality local services, projects and community assets.
We are looking for an experienced, organised and collaborative leader with strong communication skills and the ability to work across governance, HR, communications and service delivery.
Salary: £55,224 – £59,925
Full-time: 37 hours per week
Location: Godalming Town Council Offices, 107–109 High Street, Godalming

On Tuesday 19 August, Godalming Town Mayor visited Challengers Play Scheme. He said " Seeing Challengers Work close-up is very inspiring. The Staff are so knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. The joy and fun that the children and young people are having is amazing to see. This evening, a beautiful new chestnut bench was unveiled in memory of Peter Harris.

Peter dedicated his life to service having served in the Navy, Fire Service and the Police Force. He was latterly Sergeant at Mace at Godalming Town Council supporting 13 Mayors, and a true backbone of GoGodalming Canoe Club. The bench now sits opposite the very spot where Peter spent hundreds of hours on the water, a fitting place to remember someone who gave so much to our town and canoeing community.

The Mayor of Godalming, Cllr Tom Kiehl officially unveiled the bench at the Wharf with Peter’s wife and children helping with the ribbon cutting. They were joined by other family members, friends, colleagues, councillors and fellow canoe club members for a very special and moving evening.

The plaque simply says: “Peter Harris, Godalming’s finest.”

The canoe club worked incredibly hard to make this fitting tribute a reality — from securing the bench to having it beautifully crafted and installed. It is now there for everyone to enjoy, and for Peter’s memory to remain part of the place he loved.

A wonderful tribute to a much-loved member of our community. 💙
