Being part of our On-Call crew comes with plenty of challenges, responsibilities… and a few unexpected perks.

One of the best? The chance to climb the tower at our fire station and take in a view of our town that not many get to see. It’s a reminder of exactly who we’re here to protect—just from a slightly higher perspective.

And no… it’s not a gentle walk up a few stairs — it’s ladders all the way up. Not for the faint-hearted, but definitely worth it when you reach the top.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be part of the team, this is just one of the many unique experiences that comes with it.

🚒 Fire Cadets Training – Basic Life Support & First Aid

During our last Monday session, our Fire Cadets took part in an important and practical training focused on basic life support and first aid. The session covered how to recognise injuries, how to respond safely, and what actions can be taken when someone requires urgent help, even when no specialist equipment is available.

The cadets learned the importance of staying calm, assessing the situation, and providing immediate assistance while waiting for emergency services if needed. These are essential skills that can make a real difference in everyday situations.

First aid knowledge is incredibly valuable. In many emergencies, the first few minutes are critical. The decisions made and actions taken in a short space of time can mean the difference between life and death. By learning these skills early, our cadets are developing the confidence and awareness needed to help others when it matters most.

We are proud to see the cadets building practical skills, teamwork, and responsibility while gaining knowledge that could one day help save a life.

👏 Well done to all the cadets for their great participation and commitment.

🚒 New Year, New Skills for Our Fire Cadets!

After the Christmas break, our fire cadets were back last week and ready to kick off the new year with a classic fire service task. With a “new year, new me” attitude, they were set to work washing one of our fire engines and a fire service van!

Keeping our appliances clean isn’t just about looking good — it’s an important part of fire service standards. Clean vehicles help spot faults early, show professionalism, and reflect pride in the station and the role. Maintaining a clean fire engine and station is one of the first lessons every firefighter learns.

The cadets did a fantastic job, worked as a team, and had plenty of laughs along the way. A great reminder that learning the basics can still be fun — especially when you’re part of the fire family!

Well done to all our cadets 👏🚒

Congratulations, Ben! 🎉

We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to our on-call firefighter Ben on the successful completion of the Firefighter Development Pathway.

This achievement reflects a high level of dedication, resilience, and commitment. Completing this pathway requires significant personal sacrifice, continuous learning, and a strong sense of responsibility—qualities Ben has consistently demonstrated throughout his journey.

Serving as an on-call firefighter is more than a role; it’s a commitment to protecting others, supporting the community in its most critical moments, and being ready whenever the call comes. The rewards of this service go far beyond qualifications—they lie in the trust of the community, the strength of teamwork, and the pride that comes from making a real difference.

We are proud to have Ben as part of our team and look forward to seeing him continue to grow and serve with the same professionalism and dedication.

👏 Well done, Ben—and thank you for your commitment to our community. 👏

🚒 On-Call Drill Night – RTC Cutting Techniques 🚒

During this week’s On-Call drill night, our crew focused on Road Traffic Collision (RTC) training, practising essential cutting and rescue techniques used at real incidents.

RTC stands for Road Traffic Collision — one of the most time-critical and challenging parts of our firefighting role. When someone is trapped in a vehicle, every second matters.

The ability to work quickly, safely, and effectively with cutting equipment can make all the difference in saving a life.
Regular training like this ensures our crews stay confident and ready to respond whenever the call comes in — day or night. 💪

🚒 On-Call Crew Training with Humberside Fire & Rescue 🚒

Last night, our On-Call crew joined other Humberside Fire and Rescue Service teams for a Breathing Apparatus (BA) training exercise at BAE Systems in Brough.

The purpose of the exercise was to refine essential skills in challenging and realistic conditions — focusing on team coordination, search and rescue techniques, and effective response under pressure.

Regular joint training like this ensures our crews remain ready for any situation, strengthening both our operational capabilities and our commitment to community safety.

A big thank you to BAE Systems for hosting and to all crews involved for their dedication and professionalism. 👏

🔥 Tonight was a fantastic evening for our Fire Cadets! 🔥

We had some special guests — the Police Cadets came to visit! 👮‍♂️🚒

It didn’t take long before a bit of friendly rivalry kicked in… from hose rolling and hose runnig races to teamwork challenges, there was plenty of laughter, healthy competition, and great energy all around. 😄💪

What really stood out, though, was the team spirit — cadets looking out for each other, showing leadership, and proving that it’s not always about winning, but about working together and supporting your team. That’s what makes a great firefighter, a great leader, and above all, a great person. ❤️

A huge thank you to the Police Cadets for joining us tonight — we loved having you and hope to see you again soon (we’ll be ready for the rematch! 😉).

Well done everyone — you made us proud! 👏🔥

🚒 Goole Red Watch supporting Restart a Heart Day at Howden School ❤️

Today, Goole Red Watch joined forces with our partner agencies and the pupils of Howden School to take part in Restart a Heart Day.

Together, we delivered hands-on training in life-saving CPR and AED skills, helping students gain the confidence to act quickly and effectively in an emergency.

Every second counts when someone’s heart stops — and by learning these vital techniques, our young people are now better equipped to make a real difference in their communities.

A huge thank you to everyone involved for your enthusiasm and support in promoting lifesaving education. 👏

🚒💪 Fire Cadets in Action! 💪🚒

Fitness is a vital part of being a firefighter. When emergencies happen, firefighters need the stamina to keep going under pressure, the strength to carry heavy equipment, and the endurance to stay sharp when it matters most. That’s why our cadets train not only their minds, but also their bodies.

On Monday, our cadets took on a fitness session with the main challenge being the Bleep Test. For anyone wondering what that is — imagine running back and forth in time with a series of beeps that get quicker and quicker… and quicker. It’s a tough test of fitness, speed, and determination. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🔥

Every single cadet gave it their best effort, showing the grit and determination that the fire service is all about. We’re incredibly proud of how hard they worked. 👏

Parents — you’d be proud to see the energy, teamwork, and determination your cadets brought. Cadets — great job pushing through! (And yes… we know some of you are still hearing those beeps in your sleep 😅).

15/09/2025

🚒🔥 That day has finally come! After a few weeks off, our Fire Cadets are back in action. Some have grown a little taller (and maybe wiser 😉), while others look just the same as last year.

What matters most is that they’ve all returned with the same energy, enthusiasm, and team spirit that makes our cadet family so special.

We’re especially excited to welcome some brand-new faces this year—welcome aboard! We hope you’ll enjoy the challenges, fun, and friendships that come with being part of the Fire Cadets.

Here’s to another year of learning, teamwork, and plenty of laughs along the way! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒
