Good news for disabled bus users...

Today, we’re celebrating a big Lib Dem win for disabled people - from April, disabled persons' bus passes will finally be valid at any time of day.

Free local bus travel is a vital lifeline for many disabled people. But, currently, these bus passes are only valid for travel on weekdays from 9.30am to 11pm, unless local authorities fund an extension.

After a two-year Lib Dem campaign, we're delighted that the Government has finally listened - agreeing to remove these impractical restrictions next year.

Disabilities don’t start at 9.30am, and neither should disabled bus passes.

Disabled people are disproportionately reliant on public transport to access work, healthcare and education. A bus pass you can't use at peak time isn't much use if your shift, your appointment or your lecture starts at 9.30am.

At a time when the cost-of-living is going through the roof, these restrictions place a terrible strain on the finances of disabled people - who already face higher living costs compared to the rest of society.

This change is such a simple and effective step to improve accessibility - something that is long overdue.

Last September, Lib Dem MPs tabled an amendment to the Bus Services Bill to correct these absurd time restrictions. It was shocking that Labour voted that amendment down, while the Conservatives whipped their MPs to abstain.

But Lib Dems and other hardworking campaigners didn’t give up.

In December, a Lib Dem MP hosted a roundtable in Parliament on the subject, which Andy Burnham attended. Soon after, he implemented the policy in Manchester.

Now, as the Lib Dems were planning to force a second Commons vote on the change this September, Andy Burnham is finally implementing the change across England. That's good news.

Good to see transformation of the former Royal Navy Rum Store at Clarence Yard progressing thanks to the £20m of Govt. funding secured by the Liberal Democrats when they ran Gosport Council.
The regeneration of the historic building will create 7,000sqm of new mixed-use employment space and support hundreds of jobs, including those in the marine sector.

Local families are invited to a fun day in Rowner on Friday 26th June, from 12pm to 4pm.

The event is part of Pride in Place - Rowner and is a chance for local families to come together, enjoy some free activities, and share their ideas for the future of the area.

There will be a mobile farm, magician, balloon modelling and a free ice cream or ice lolly for every child.

It will also be an opportunity to meet the Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board, local organisations, the Best Start Family Hub and Hampshire County Council teams, and to have your say on what you would like to see in Rowner.

Pride in Place is a huge opportunity for Rowner, and it is really important that local people are at the heart of shaping how the funding is used.

Please do come along, drop in anytime, and help spread the word.

Gosport's free-to-use skips proved popular again today at the Walpole Park car park. 10 skips filled. Such a shame the Conservatives & Reform want to scrap the skips when so many residents want to use them.
