Rotary Club of Grangemouth

Rotary Club of Grangemouth Rotarians are simply a bunch of ordinary like minded people, who do great things by working together to help others in the local and wider community.

Our Mother Club is Falkirk and strong links still exist between the Clubs, with a joint meeting held every year. The Club usualy meets in the Leapark Hotel Grangemouth every Thursday at 12:30 for 12:45, with the third Thursday in each month being reserved for a business meeting. The Club previously met in the Grange Manor Hotel and Galloway's Restaurant in the Town. The Club continues to thrive an

d has an active programme throughout the year. Over the years a few members have served in positions at District and National level. John Kenny was District Governor in 1984, RIBI President in 1993 and Rotary International President in 2009-10. Bill Ramage served as District Secretary and Joe Gallacher as District Treasurer. To commemorate John's year as RI President a water harvesting project was set up. John is a very good ambassador for Rotary and for the Grangemouth Club in particular. The Club supports many local charities throughout the year. The annual Santa Float collection and the charity Sportsman's Dinner contribute to Strathcarron Hospice and CHAS. We regularly raise in excess of £30,000 at this event. The club has also supported appeals for world disasters through providing Shelter Boxes. Community activities form a large part of the club work and the local Road Safety Competition in the Primary Schools has been running since 1957.

Club member Vicki Wilson will be taking on the Cancer Research UK Big Hike. Any and all donations are greatly appreciated. Vicki shared why she is taking on the challenge:

"I am doing this hike for a cause that means so much to me.
Like so many of you, my life has been shaped by cancer—through the people I love and the experiences we carry.
On a personal note, my lovely mum died the day before my 9th birthday, at just 40 years old. Even now, 43 years later, I feel her loss every single day.

I’m also doing this for my father-in-law, John, who recently faced cancer with incredible strength and dignity.
And for the friends and colleagues who continue to inspire me - Katie and Liz, whose courage through gruelling treatments and surgeries has been nothing short of remarkable.
As well as those still in the midst of it - Wendy, Lou and Joe—truly amazing people who keep showing up every day despite the uncertainty and the toll that treatment takes.

This hike is for all of them.

And the sheer entertainment value of a chunky unfit woman trying not to die while hiking 13 miles with no training is not to be underestimated!

If you’re able to support, any donation—big or small—will go towards vital cancer research and is deeply appreciated."

A most enjoyable evening on Wednesday 29th April, as Grangemouth Rotary Club joined with Falkirk Bohemians for a truly memorable fundraising event.

Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone who attended and supported the evening, we are delighted to say that over £1,100.00 was raised for Operation Smile. This incredible charity transforms lives by providing life-changing surgery for children and young adults born with cleft conditions.

A big thank you must go to Falkirk Bohemians for their involvement, and to everyone who contributed whether by attending, donating, or helping behind the scenes. The money raised will make a genuine difference to those in need.

Many thanks to Eric Davidson who has very kindly donated a selection of hand tools to the Rotary Club of Grangemouth.

These will soon go to Garvald Edinburgh to be refurbished where necessary. Thereafter the tools will be shipped to Malawi helping adults with disabilities to start up small businesses and generate an income to support themselves and their families. This is a project funded by the Scottish Government as part of the Scotland Malawi Partnership Agreement.
