The Air Cadet Organisation provides young adults from the ages of 12 - 20 with an opportunity to develop a wide array of skills, there is also the chance to take part in activities that most young people can only dream about! The skills that you will learn whilst being a part of 47F include teamwork, leadership, discipline, communication and self-confidence. These skills are taught through many of the wide ranging activities that the Corps has on offer! At 47F (Grantham) Squadron we frequently partake in many of the Air Cadets core activities such as DofE, flying, shooting, adventure training, fieldcraft, sports to name a few! Its no secret how successful 47F (Grantham) Squadron is, you only have to look at the Air Cadet, Trent Wing or Grantham Journal Websites and there will normally be an article about us on show. We also frequently get involved with community events including the Mayor's Parlour, RAFA/RAFBF collections.

The RAF Air Cadets aims to help young people gain "Skills for Life" skills that will be useful in both service or a civilian career.

Here on 47F we are fortunate enough to have highly skilled volunteers willing to share their skills and help the cadets learn, whether they are learning navigational skills, or leading a team. All cadets get the opportunity to gain new skills and foster the spirit of adventure!

Today we recognise the fantastic volunteers who are the foundation of the squadron, without them we wouldn't have a squadron!

Out team of volunteers are made up a wide range of staff from many different backgrounds and experience.

Alongside the adult volunteers that are the face of the squadron, we also have an amazing team of individuals who make up our civilian committee.

We thank all our volunteers for all their time, effort, enthusiasm and dedication to 47F and the wider RAF Air Cadets

Cadets in the community

Being a cadet at 47F isn't just about what they gain as an individual, it is also the impact that they have on the wider community.

Cadets get involved in a number of different community events from parades, poppy selling, supporting RAFA concerns as well as raising funds for the squadron.

Many of our cadets undertake their Duke of Edinburgh award, as part of this they dedicate their time to volunteering. Cadets have been involved in scouting, guiding, church, park runs, local radio, sport clubs and many more. Giving back to the community, creates a sense of belonging and haves develop skills for life in leadership.

Thank you to all our cadets who go out into the community to make a positive difference.

National Cadets Week is a chance to celebrate everything that makes being part of a cadet great! The skills we learn, the friendships made, the challenges achieved and the communities we support. We celebrate the achievement of our young people but it wouldn't be possible without volunteers.

September has been a busy month for 47F Grantham with welcoming new members and saying goodbye.

Welcome aboard! 🛬

We’ve just welcomed 25 new cadets to our HQ training programme. They’re officially beginning their journey into aviation, leadership, and adventure. Best of luck, recruits!

We have welcomed a new service instructor Rev (Sqn Ldr) Lacey, she has had a positive impact on the squadron and got involved in many elements of the squadron.

Farewell 🛫

We are officially saying goodbye to Cpl Sutcliffe, Sgt Everett, CWO Smeed, and CWO Chatterjee as they reach the end of their time with the squadron. Whether they are ageing out after years of dedicated service or heading off to start their next big chapter at university, they leave behind an incredible legacy.

Thank you all for your outstanding leadership, commitment, and the fantastic examples you’ve set for the younger cadets. You will be greatly missed around the squadron!

This evening cadets have had the opportunity to attend RAF Waddington to take part in a Cobra Warrior engagement event. Ex Cobra Warrior is a multi-national exercise involving several NATO partners. Cadets have had the chance to view aircraft that are taking part in the exercise as well as meeting aircrew and of course the tradition of swapping patches and badges.

This opportunity wouldn't have been possible without our service instructor Cpl McCormack alongside CI Jarvis.

🎉 DOUBLE EXPEDITION SUCCESS! 🎉

A massive congratulations to our incredible DofE cadets and staff who pushed through a grueling, back-to-back weekend schedule to conquer their recent milestones!

Despite initial warm weather disruptions forcing a packed calendar, the resilience on display was absolutely phenomenal. Here is how our teams got on:

Silver DofE Success
A huge shoutout to Cdt Slater, Cdt Bennet, and Sgt Kimber! They have officially completed their Silver DofE expeditions:
Practice: Conquered in Derbyshire
Assessed: Officially signed off after navigating the North Yorkshire Moors!

Gold DofE Progress
Our Silver team had some excellent company! 4 of our Gold DofE cadets joined them in the North Yorkshire Moors, successfully smashing their Gold Practice Expedition ahead of their final assessment.

From intense sunshine and sunburn worries to dense moorland fog and dramatic thunderstorms, these teams faced every weather extreme imaginable. Navigating and camping through these rapid shifts takes serious mental toughness, and everyone showed massive skill improvement and brilliant teamwork.

👉 Good luck to our Gold DofE cadets who will be joining the wing for their Assessed Expedition in just a few weeks! You've got this! 🙌

All your hard work, dedication, and resilience both in the squadron and at school have led to this moment. We are so proud of you and know you will do brilliantly!

Huge congratulations to our 13 incredible cadets who spent 2 days tackling the Lincolnshire Coast for their Bronze The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Qualifying Expedition! 🎒🌊

From navigating coastal paths and setting up camp to cooking up a storm and pushing through the miles—their teamwork, resilience, and high spirits were outstanding from start to finish.

We couldn't be prouder of how they represented the unit and supported each other along the way. Time for a well-earned rest and a lot of sleep! 💤

It is always a honour to help other squadrons in the wing, with 2 cadets from 620 Derwent Valley Squadron joining us.
