The Air Cadet Organisation provides young adults from the ages of 12 - 20 with an opportunity to develop a wide array of skills, there is also the chance to take part in activities that most young people can only dream about! The skills that you will learn whilst being a part of 47F include teamwork, leadership, discipline, communication and self-confidence. These skills are taught through many of

the wide ranging activities that the Corps has on offer! At 47F (Grantham) Squadron we frequently partake in many of the Air Cadets core activities such as DofE, flying, shooting, adventure training, fieldcraft, sports to name a few! Its no secret how successful 47F (Grantham) Squadron is, you only have to look at the Air Cadet, Trent Wing or Grantham Journal Websites and there will normally be an article about us on show. We also frequently get involved with community events including the Mayor's Parlour, RAFA/RAFBF collections.

🎉 DOUBLE EXPEDITION SUCCESS! 🎉

A massive congratulations to our incredible DofE cadets and staff who pushed through a grueling, back-to-back weekend schedule to conquer their recent milestones!

Despite initial warm weather disruptions forcing a packed calendar, the resilience on display was absolutely phenomenal. Here is how our teams got on:

Silver DofE Success
A huge shoutout to Cdt Slater, Cdt Bennet, and Sgt Kimber! They have officially completed their Silver DofE expeditions:
Practice: Conquered in Derbyshire
Assessed: Officially signed off after navigating the North Yorkshire Moors!

Gold DofE Progress
Our Silver team had some excellent company! 4 of our Gold DofE cadets joined them in the North Yorkshire Moors, successfully smashing their Gold Practice Expedition ahead of their final assessment.

From intense sunshine and sunburn worries to dense moorland fog and dramatic thunderstorms, these teams faced every weather extreme imaginable. Navigating and camping through these rapid shifts takes serious mental toughness, and everyone showed massive skill improvement and brilliant teamwork.

👉 Good luck to our Gold DofE cadets who will be joining the wing for their Assessed Expedition in just a few weeks! You've got this! 🙌

Huge congratulations to our 13 incredible cadets who spent 2 days tackling the Lincolnshire Coast for their Bronze The Duke of Edinburgh's Award Qualifying Expedition! 🎒🌊

From navigating coastal paths and setting up camp to cooking up a storm and pushing through the miles—their teamwork, resilience, and high spirits were outstanding from start to finish.

We couldn't be prouder of how they represented the unit and supported each other along the way. Time for a well-earned rest and a lot of sleep! 💤

It is always a honour to help other squadrons in the wing, with 2 cadets from 620 Derwent Valley Squadron joining us.

Cpl White had the privilege of attending Gold Cyber Course at RAF Cosford.

"My experience of the gold cyber course at RAF Cosford has been fantastic - from the instructors to the cadets. We learnt in the classroom and out, with the classroom learning solidified with immersive practical work on the computers.
From cyber laws to warfare, the course taught us how to prevent, recognise, and educate others on the subject at a high level, and I look forward to passing on this knowledge to the cadets on squadron and wing!

A highlight of the course was winning the Top Cadet prize awarded by the Armed Forces Communications Engineering and Technology Academic trust at the end of the week. I was honoured to have made an impact on staff for the recognition, as everyone worked so hard on this course it was such a tough decision I'm sure.

A massive thank you to all staff at RAF Cosford as well as course instructors for being so welcoming and hard working in ensuring we were all well fed, cooled and accommodated for the week, as well as doing their usual jobs."

Building scale models is a brilliant activity for cadets—it combines hands-on engineering skills, attention to detail, and patience with a tangible lesson in aviation history and technology.

Comparing a Spitfire (piston engine, WWII legend), a BAE Hawk (classic jet trainer/light attack), and an F-35 (modern 5th-generation stealth multirole fighter) side by side gives a really clear visual timeline of how aerodynamics, propulsion, and military aviation design have evolved over the decades.

It’s a great example of blending personal interests with practical learning!

Cadets have attended Wing Field Day on Saturday. Taking part in various activities showcasing skills they learn as a cadet from drill to orienteering to music and everything in between.

Every cadet taking part put their best effort in and it really showed

We are proud to announce we won 1st place in Orienteering and Cadet Photography along with a 2nd place for Youth First Aid.

Well done to everyone who took part.

Today marks the start of the Armed Forces Week celebrations within South Kesteven and Grantham town, 3 Cadets and 2 Officers attended the flag raising ceremony this morning in Grantham with the Chairman of SKDC. Representing the cadet forces in our local community is a big part of our organisation and a role we are proud to undertake.

18 cadets enjoyed a wonderful day out at the RAF Cosford Air Show this past Sunday. The brilliant weather complemented a spectacular lineup of static and flying displays, and the cadets particularly enjoyed exploring the pop-up village and stands. Though it was a long day, everyone showed great stamina and spirit throughout.

We extend our sincere thanks to Priory Ruskin CCF (RAF Section) for arranging the coach transport, and we were delighted to be accompanied by the cadets and staff from Kings School CCF (RAF Section).
