Report of anti-social behaviour

The Parish Council has received reports of two young boys kicking and banging on front doors as well as being generally noisy on their phones and running around homes along the High Street this week (specifically Sunday and yesterday). The residents involved were elderly and felt vulnerable and scared after the incident. The incidents have been reported to the Police.

We know that there is an emerging trend among some young people to do this, film it and share with friends but had hoped that our small village would skip the trend. Obviously not.

How can you help? Could everyone please remind their children to be respectful and avoid this sort of behaviour. Thank you for your help in keeping our community safe and kind.

PLANNING ALERT!

Dear Residents,

A planning application proposing the construction of 5 new homes on land off Barton Road in-between Fairbourne and St Mary's Church (site of old disused farm buildings) has been submitted. This site has been the subject of a multitude of planning applications, some withdrawn and all others refused by both Central Bedfordshire Council and the Planning Inspector.

The Parish Council remains opposed to any development of this site but currently there are only 10 objections logged with to Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC). Responses to the planning application need to be submitted by 28th August (this Friday!).

Operation Scoot: Targeting illegal e-scooters and e-bikes

| Operation Scoot is Bedfordshire Police's specialist operation focusing on illegal e-vehicles including e-scooters.

We know the community welcomes targeted operations to seize and destroy these vehicles, which are clearly a concern to many residents.

ALL private e-scooters are illegal on our roads, but Beds Police also want to be absolutely clear about the types of e-bikes we are targeting and seizing.

What e-bikes are legal?

Legal electric bikes – also known as an Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) – can be purchased and ridden without registration, insurance or a driver’s licence.

🚲 Pedal Assistance Only
The motor must assist only when the rider is pedalling. It cannot provide power on its own (i.e.,no throttle-only operation unless limited to 6 km/h for starting).

🚲 Motor Power Limit
The motor must have a maximum continuous power output of 250 watts.

🚲 Speed Limit
The motor must cut off assistance when the bike reaches 15.5 mph (25 km/h).

🚲 Age Requirement
Riders must be at least 14 years old to legally ride an e-bike on public roads.

If an e-bike does not meet the above criteria, it is classified as a moped or motorcycle, meaning you would need:
• A driving licence
• Insurance
• Registration
• Helmet use
• Compliance with vehicle tax and MOT (if applicable)

Beds Police are continuing to tackle the illegal use of e-scooters and other e-vehicles in public places. Offenders risk prosecution, fines, driving disqualification, or imprisonment, and vehicles may be seized and destroyed if ownership or insurance cannot be proven.

Beds Police know the positive impact of these activities will not be seen overnight; however, they will be taking action against those that choose not to abide by the law.

Barton Road closed

Anglian Water have an emergency road closure on Barton Road outside of the village due to a burst main.

They expect to be completed by 31st July
