Talliston House & Gardens

Talliston House & Gardens Once an ordinary house, Talliston has been transformed into Britain's Most Extraordinary Home.

Behind an arched oak door set in a thicket hedge lies Talliston House & Gardens. With a name that means ‘the hidden place’, this once ordinary house hides thirteen rooms, each set in a different time and place. Twenty-five years in the making, the project has taken a three-bedroomed, semi-detached, ex-council house in Essex and transformed it into a wonderland of inspirational locations. With an e

ver-evolving calendar of events, including fine dining at our regular supper club, unplugged gigs or open days, we invite you to explore this unique interior design project, art installation and venue for hire.

THE PRIEST HOLE COMPLETED
For the tenth anniversary of the house we wanted to add something special. Discovering a void space behind the cupboards in the Boiler Room, it was decided that what the Watchtower was missing was a priest hole!

While all the construction was done last year, the final finishing touch was a hand-sewn canopy for the area. This was originally the task of John Tarrow's godmother, Beryl, but as she passed earlier this year, it was not until summer that we found a seamstress to finish her work.

So: now we have another room within Talliston – hiding in plain sight for only those who know.
