π Learning Disability Awareness Week 2026 π
This week, we are celebrating the incredible strengths, resilience and achievements of people with learning disabilities.
Today's celebration is from one of our support workers, who wanted to share a story about a truly remarkable young man who lives in our children's home.
The young man faces more challenges than most people can imagine, yet despite everything he experiences on a daily basis, he continues to find joy in the world around him.
Whether it's spending time fishing, sitting peacefully by the lake, or exploring somewhere new, the simplest moments bring the biggest smiles. Even whilst unwell in hospital this week, he spent some time in the children's playground and his smile said it all β he was happy, relaxed and enjoying the moment.
For many people, these experiences might seem ordinary, but for him they represent something extraordinary. The fact that he finds joy, and experiences happiness, excitement and pride despite the obstacles he faces is a huge achievement and a reminder of the strength he carries every day.
Learning Disability Awareness Week is about recognising potential, celebrating individuality and appreciating the small moments that mean so much.
We are proud of the team who love and support our amazing young man, and who provide him with the opportunities that open up his world. We are also incredibly proud of him and feel privileged to share in those moments of happiness with him. π
