This is the Courthouse in Long Crendon
The George Courthouse is smaller but built at the same time and along the same lines
This is what we give up if we allow planning consent
This is the George Courthouse now. The proposal is to convert it into 2 private dwellings. In so doing the ground floor horse stalls and mangers will be destroyed. This is not progress. We have plenty of converted Inns in Great Missenden, the Swan, Crown, Red Lion, Waggon & Horses & Buckinghamshire Arms.
What we need is to keep this Courthouse and the George Inn available for us all to enjoy. This is our History. Where else in this area could you find a 15c Courthouse of this quality and wouldn’t you be pleased to spend time here? Great Missenden deserves to keep assets preserved and available for our children and generations to come. We should stand up for the Conservation Area and the A O N B and ask our elected representatives to refuse permission for change of use and redevelopment. The development retains a part of the front building as a pub but it is feared that this will be too small to survive and will follow the rest to residential in time if this planning is allowed.
