A great start to the week, spending time with the residents of Strand Court Extra Care Housing provision.

This was a great reminder of what adult social care is truly about: supporting people to live independently, stay connected, and maintain their wellbeing within their own communities.

It was a pleasure to speak with the residents, hear their experiences and be on hand to give adult social care advice and information

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome.

What is Cuckooing?

Cuckooing is a cruel form of exploitation where criminals take over the home of a vulnerable person and use it as a base for illegal activities like drug dealing or s*x work, often linked to county lines gangs. These perpetrators don’t just use the property, they take control of someone’s life, isolating and manipulating them with threats, lies and intimidation.

💔 It can affect people who are isolated, have experience of abuse, struggle with addiction or mental health challenges, or who have been in care.

📌 Signs something might be wrong
Look out for:
• Lots of unfamiliar visitors at all hours
• Unusual cars coming and going
• The resident looking anxious or withdrawn
• Sudden unexplained money or items
• Changes in relationships or wellbeing
• Fewer health or support visits to the home

If you suspect someone may be a victim of modern slavery, including cuckooing, you can contact the free, confidential Salvation Army Modern Slavery Helpline 24/7 on 0800 808 3733.

Let’s raise awareness and protect those who are being exploited. 💙
