🔥⚠️ With the next heatwave underway, Surrey’s precious heathlands and wildlife are again at high risk of fire.

Most wildfires are caused by human activity and are preventable. If you're enjoying the countryside this week, please help protect nature by leaving BBQs at home, taking your litter with you, and disposing of ci******es safely.

A single spark can devastate habitats that support rare species such as Nightjars and Dartford Warblers and take years to recover.

🌿 Pack a picnic, not a BBQ.
🚭 Leave no smoking waste behind.
🗑️ Take your litter home.

Together, we can help keep Surrey’s wildlife and green spaces safe this summer.

Earlier bin collections this week 📢

Due to the high temperatures, our bin crews will be starting collections earlier than usual to help keep them safe in the heat.

♻️ Please make sure your bins are out the night before, as collections will take place from 5.30am for the rest of the week.

With high temperatures forecast for this week, a cool living space is especially important for infants, older people or those with long-term health conditions.

Tips to keep cool indoors during the hot weather: close curtains on windows that face the sun, and open windows when it’s cooler outside than inside (when it is safe to do so). Turn off any unnecessary electrical items and remember sometimes it’s cooler sitting in a park under a tree than it is in a home that is too hot.

If the temperature is below 35°C, use an electric fan aimed away from the body. Keep indoor plants and bowls of water in the house during hot weather as evaporation helps cool the air.

An amber heat-health alert is in place for Surrey.

It's advised to avoid extreme physical exertion in the hot weather - if you can’t avoid strenuous outdoor activity, keep it for cooler parts of the day such as early morning or evening. Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol.

If you or others feel unwell, get dizzy, feel weak, anxious or have intense thirst, move to a cool place, drink water to rehydrate and cool your body down. If symptoms persist, consult your doctor, pharmacist or call NHS 111.

Warm temperatures are expected in Surrey over the next few days.

Check in on older friends, family and neighbours, particularly those who live alone, who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated during the hot weather
