Please do not hesitate to call 999 if you think a fire is spreading out of control.

We've been receiving calls from people concerned about neighbours having bonfires/campfires and letting off fireworks in their garden during this very hot, dry period.

!! We strongly advise against bonfires, fireworks, campfires, or disposable BBQs, as fires can spread quickly and become difficult to control. They not only put your own home at risk , but that of your neighbours too, we've seen it before.

Here's how to get help if you're worried πŸ‘‡

Please stay wildfire aware!
This is not the time to be having bonfires in the garden or fields either. It is very easy for any fire to get out of control.

The hot, dry conditions mean wildfire risk is extremely high. In Surrey, these fires can spread quickly, destroying wildlife habitats and putting people at risk. Last summer alone, we attended 518 outdoor fires.

If you're enjoying the weather:
πŸ₯ͺ Swap a BBQ for a picnic
πŸ”₯ Do not light campfires or bonfires
πŸ—‘οΈ Take your rubbish home
🚭 Dispose of ci******es properly

Even a small spark can cause serious damage.

If you spot a wildfire, call 999 immediately.

More roadworks !
Just heard that the Guildford Road past Fairlands is shut. Detour in place

30/07/2026

Just heard there are road works in the village, hopefully to fix two water leaks. (Yes, it frustrating that the leaks are not fixed sooner).
Guildford road has traffic lights near the motorbike shop and Huntshill Road may be shut at the north end, not sure if periodic or for hours.
If you can provide updates for this post in the comments, please do.
Thanks

A big thank you to Friends of Normandy Wildlife for donating 4 bird boxes and to Meadows Landscaping & Tree Services for putting them up on trees.
Both blue t**s and great t**s eat oak processionary moth caterpillars so we are providing them with more homes and hoping they move in.

If you go down to the woods today, you might see something strange!
Meadows Landscaping & Tree Services is on Normandy Common with a cherry picker removing oak processionary moth nests from the high priority trees.
These are trees around high use areas, such as play areas, car park and picnic areas.
A big thank you to Meadows Landscaping & Tree Services for moving their work around to fit this job in before the caterpillars all pupate into moths.
It is very hot out there!
