Visitor Update for Thursday 15th & Friday 16th October

This Thursday and Friday, some areas of the sanctuary will be temporarily closed while our veterinary team carries out two important procedures for seals in our care.
Jarvis will be undergoing his long-awaited cataract operation, which could help restore his sight, while Logs will be receiving essential dental treatment.
To give our vets and animal care teams the quiet space they need to perform these delicate procedures and support the seals during their recovery, certain areas of the sanctuary will not be accessible to visitors at times throughout both days.
Talk times may also be changed.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience and understanding. These procedures are an important part of the specialist care we provide to our resident animals.

We're delighted to welcome two very special new temporary residents to the Cornish Seal Sanctuary - beavers Steve and Terri!
Named in honour of conservation icons Steve and Terri Irwin, these young beavers represent hope for the future of beaver conservation in Britain.

Working with Beaver Trust, our Sanctuary provides a safe 'halfway house' for rescued beavers. In our 4-acre enclosure, they can recover, develop natural behaviours and prepare for their future release back into the wild as part of a national reintroduction programme.

Steve and Terri have already begun settling into their new home in our nursery and we can't wait to watch their antics over the coming months.

A huge thank you to Beaver Trust, Five Sisters Zoo and everyone involved in helping them safely reach Cornwall.

Meet Morris, the newest member of our puffin crew!

After being found weak and underweight at Hawkes Point, Morris embarked on quite the journey. Thanks to a fantastic team effort involving local vets, wildlife rehabilitators, and our animal care team, she has now settled into her forever home on Puffin Island at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.

Named after an impromptu stop at Morrisons in Penzance, where staff helped feed the hungry puffin, Morris has already won plenty of hearts. Although DNA testing later revealed that "he" was actually a she, the name Morris has happily stuck!

After 30 days in isolation, Morris has now joined our puffin colony and is settling in brilliantly.

Visitors can now meet Morris and follow her next chapter as she finds her flappy feet among her Icelandic cousins.

🦭HAPPY INTERNATIONAL ZOOKEEPER DAY! 🦭🐾

Today is all about celebrating our amazing animal care team, that keep all our animals cared for and fed 365 days a year, rain and shine ☀️

Whether they're preparing diets, creating enrichment, carrying out training, rescuing pups, giving out medication or doing lots and lots of cleaning - every day is different. And through it all they keep on smiling!

Their knowledge of all the permanent residents and expertise of seal rehab, from the youngest smallest pups to the oldest residents in their care, is what makes such a difference every day.

A huge thank you to our brilliant keeper team for everything they do for our animals and for sharing their passion with our visitors too
