Have you booked your place at East Lothian Archaeology & Heritage Fortnight yet? It's on now and spaces are limited so have a look and hopefully you can still attend the events you're interested in.

Places are almost gone for the Hidden History of the Hidden Toun on Wednesday 9 September at the John Gray Centre Archives - a deep dive into the progress and perils of the 1800s - and a walk around Drem Airfield illustrated with old photos showing its role in the two world wars, on Friday 11 September.

You can still book for many other events including the History of Aberlady Bay during World War Two on Saturday 5 September - a 9km walk exploring wartime defences and wrecks.

Places are also filling up for Unnoticed History in Gullane; Steam Ploughing in East Lothian; North Berwick's Historic Harbour & Shoreline and North Berwick from Shore to Summit. For full details of all the events and how to book, go to https://orlo.uk/Ye9el

You still have two weeks left to share your views on proposed active travel improvements between Musselburgh’s Fisherrow Harbour and Links View.
We’re holding a public consultation seeking feedback on the proposals which form part of the Musselburgh Active Toun (MAT) project.
The MAT scheme aims to deliver safer and more accessible walking, wheeling and cycling connections.
The concept designs for the section between Fisherrow Harbour and Links View are focused on enhancing the functionality, accessibility and overall experience of this much-loved area.
Residents, businesses, visitors, harbour users, and those with an interest in Musselburgh’s waterfront and travel network are encouraged to offer their views.
Anyone wishing to take part in the consultation can visit the project website until Wednesday, 16 September to explore the designs and complete the online survey at https://orlo.uk/mMknN

Local community groups, charities and third sector organisations can now apply for this year’s funding awards from our One Council Partnership Fund (OCPF).
The application window for 2027/28 grant funding opened today (Tuesday, 1 September) and closes on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
OCPF funding enables us to support community organisations in their work to help to reduce inequalities and make East Lothian a better place to live.
The OCPF issued over £1.3 million in grants for 2026/27 to more than 30 community-based groups across the county.

A reminder that dog owners have important responsibilities when walking their pets in East Lothian’s countryside.
Dogs that are not controlled properly can cause serious concern to farmers, land managers, other dog walkers, and members of the public.
Out of control dogs can worry or attack livestock and other dogs, disturb wildlife, and cause alarm to visitors to the countryside, including children.
In Scotland, you can walk your dog on most land as long as you follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code which can be found here: https://orlo.uk/BIPq3
Key points for all dog walkers:

• Do not allow your dog to approach other animals or people uninvited.

• Always keep your dog in your line of vision and under control at all times. If in doubt, use a lead.

• If your dog fouls in a public space then ‘bag it and bin it’.

We have a duty to safeguard public money. We expect the highest standards of conduct and integrity from everyone who deals with us. This includes employees, elected members, contractors and the public.

If you suspect that any person or organisation has committed a fraud that involves our council, you can report it in confidence online. This includes:

• tenancy and housing fraud
• Council tax discount fraud

You don’t have to identify yourself or provide personal information, just information about the type of fraud and who has committed it. You can also upload documents or photographs as evidence. Our specialist Corporate Fraud Officer will consider all information.

Fraudulent claims and behaviours affect communities by reducing the amount of money available to fund council services or reducing availability of housing for people who are in genuine need.

Following a recent spate of fly-tipping incidents in the Prestonpans area, we’re issuing this reminder to householders:

• It’s the responsibility of householders to ensure any waste produced from within their property or garden is removed by a registered waste carrier. After checking this requirement with the carrier, you may wish to confirm their registration is valid on the SEPA public register at https://orlo.uk/8pEWK

• If you fail to make reasonable checks to ensure waste from your address is taken away by a registered carrier and that waste is subsequently found to have been fly-tipped, you share liability with the fly-tipper and could be made the subject of enforcement action.

• The public should be suspicious of individuals or businesses offering unrealistically cheap waste uplift and transportation services. This may be a sign the waste will not be legally transported.

Anyone with information about specific fly-tipping incidents or unauthorised waste carriers is urged to report it to our Community Protection Team on 01875 824307 or via our online form at https://orlo.uk/Kj4tV
