Babergh District Council have arranged the exit roadway in the car park to be completely resurfaced, pothole repairs to other areas, relining, a new zebra crossing to the health centre, and new signage.

The car park will be closed during this period, with health centre visitors able to park in High Street Car Park. This car park will be reserved for health centre visitors and school permit holders only.

They have worked closely with the health centre, pharmacy, and contractor to make suitable arrangements.

Suffolk County Council will shortly be launching a public consultation on potential improvements to Hadleigh High Street and surrounding streets.

The consultation forms part of wider work being undertaken through Suffolk’s Local Transport Plan and Area Transport Plans, supported by central government funding. The aim is to understand how the High Street and local streets could better support residents, businesses and visitors, while maintaining access for parking, deliveries and emergency services.

No decisions have been made at this stage. The consultation is intended to gather feedback from the community on a range of early-stage ideas and priorities.

There is a long-standing tradition for Hadleigh to pay its rent to the Clopton Family by way of a ceremonial payment of a single red rose to the tomb of William Clopton resting in Long Melford's Holy Trinity Church.

In 1436 William Clopton, Lord of Toppesfield Manor, granted the town of Hadleigh the guildhall and market land, for the rent of one mark a year. This rent was later converted to a single rose. In 1984 Gene Clopton came across that the rent was many years overdue and asked Hadleigh to pay up! The people of Hadleigh duly did and have done so every year since. This payment is still considered one of the oldest rents payable anywhere in the country.

On Sunday 31st May, our Mayor Zunaid Saiyed visited Long Melford to continue the tradition of presenting a single rose to the Chair of Long Melford Parish Council to accept on behalf of the Clopton Family, with thanks for the Guildhall and land in Hadleigh. The service and ceremony was live streamed to the Cloptons now residing in America.

Thank you to Reverend Matthew Lawson for organising and hosting the event.

ROAD CLOSURE: Layham Road, Layham
WHEN: 8th June to 10th July

National Grid is getting ready for the main construction phase of the Bramford to Twinstead Reinforcement . In preparation for this, we need to build a new, widened site entrance (known as a bellmouth) so vehicles can safely access our working areas.

To keep everyone safe while Balfour Beatty carry out this work on our behalf, we need to temporarily close part of Layham Road, north of Lower Layham, from Monday 8 June to Friday 10 July.

A full road closure is needed as the narrow carriageway means that the works cannot be carried out safely whilst keeping the road open.

We will display advance warning signs and clearly mark the work area prior to the closure. We will also clearly signpost the diversion route, which you can see on the map to the right.

After the diversion ends on 10 July, we’ll introduce a reduced speed limit at this location to keep everyone safe. The reduced speed limit will be clearly signposted and remain in place until the end of 2029.

We understand that our work may cause some disruption to your journey, and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Our teams will work to complete this work as efficiently and safely as possible.
