This evening we assisted a family that were stuck down a single track road by flood water. The crew only got a general postcode but due to previous incidents we guessed were we needed to go. Please please get the what 3 words app on your phones. This app places your position in a 3 meter square anywhere. If you pass the three words to our control we can find you as quickly as possible.

It’s been a really busy few months for the crew at Hadleigh. We’ve already attended more incidents this year than we did in the whole of 2024. On Tuesday evening we were called to a dog that was impaled on a metal gate. We used our recip saw and hydraulic spreaders to release the dog with the help of a vet. A couple of hours later we were called to a thatched cricket pavilion in Bures. If you’re interested in joining the crew pop in to the station on a Thursday evening 18.30-20.30, we’d be happy to have a chat.

The crew are currently in attendance at a thatched roof fire which has seriously damaged 2 properties in Glemsford. 🚒🚒🚒

Our tour of Suffolk continues. Yesterday evening we were called to standby at Debenham but didn’t get there as we picked up a relief at Letheringham. This morning we find ourselves at Metfield for another relief crew at a range of farm buildings. Looks like the silly season has arrived!!🚒🚒

Our tour of the county continues. Last month as well as attending a forest fire near Mildenhall, we also had standbys at Newmarket, Bury St Endmunds, Haverhill, Sudbury, Ipswich, Debenham and Stowmarket. Today we were called at 07.30 to a relief crew at Pakefield near Lowestoft, finally returning to our day jobs at 3.30 this afternoon. All of the above are on top of the numerous calls we have attended in our own area. Once again, we thank our employers that allow us to drop everything to do perform our vital role serving the community. If you would like to find out more about the role of an on call firefighter, wherever you are in Suffolk, pop in and see us on a Thursday night between 18.30 and 20.30.🚒🚒🚒

To put some perspective on what all firefighters do on a daily basis, last night 2 of our colleagues from Oxfordshire paid the ultimate sacrifice and two others were seriously injured. The thoughts of all at Hadleigh go out to the families and fellow firefighters involved, unsung heroes who want nothing more than to help and protect the communities they live in. God speed.

Busy couple of days for the crew. Called out at 3.00pm to relieve crews at a forrest fire near Brandon, home at 9.30pm. Called this morning at 9.30 to standby at Newmarket, on our way home at 2.00pm we picked up another standby at Bury, followed an hour later by a standby at Haverhill. We got back to base at 6.30pm, washed to appliance ready for the next call. Worth mentioning that none of what we do would be possible without the support of our employers when we disappear for hours on end to serve our community, and of course our families who pick up the slack when we’re not around.🚒🚒🚒🚒
