That’s 35 calls in 31 days. We went to Dunwich 3 times, each for more than 10 hours. Some of the crew haven’t slept in their bed for more than 4 or 5 hours since last Tuesday. Obviously this is not the norm but we are prepared to dig deep when we need to. We’ve had unbelievable support from the Salvation Army, the Rapid Relief Team feeding and keeping us hydrated, many other brigades from across the country that have sent assets and fire engines to assist us during this unprecedented event. Leaving the incident on Friday night and being cheered and clapped by the local community was very humbling, but very much appreciated. None of the above would be possible without the support of our family and employers who release local on call firefighters across the county.
