Last week (8-14 June), we made 14 arrests across Wealden.

An individual was arrested for criminal damage in Heathfield.

4 drivers were arrested in Maresfield, Stone Cross and Hailsham. 1 for drink driving, 1 for drug driving, 1 for dangerous driving and 1 for failing to supply a roadside specimen.

3 people were arrested for assault in Hellingly, Forest Row and Hailsham.

Other offences included possession of class B drugs, breaking bail conditions, and wounding with intent.

Three men have been fined for poaching in Pevensey.

Johnny Glisheen, 20, Edward Glisheen, 36, and Joe Ripley, 42, appeared at Hastings Magistrates’ Court on 3 June and pleaded guilty to daytime trespass in pursuit of game (poaching) and hunting a wild mammal with dogs.

They have each been ordered to pay £505 in fines and court costs.

Rural Crime Team officer Police Constable Zoe King said: “Poaching and hare coursing will not be tolerated in Sussex.

“It puts our local wildlife at risk of serious harm and death, and it impacts farmers whose land is trespassed upon, and crops are often destroyed.

“We will continue investigating any report received and pursuing those responsible.”

Further arrests and bike seizures ⬇️

On the evening of 11 June, police received a report of a stolen off-road motorbike, along with further calls about ongoing concerns around dangerous and anti-social riding in Eastbourne and Polegate.

Officers carried out an initial area search for the reported stolen bike, but it was not located. Patrols remained in the area to provide reassurance and respond to any further reports.

As the evening went on and further reports were received of bikes being ridden off-road, dangerously and without helmets, officers were able to redirect their patrols and respond quickly to the areas identified.

At around 10.50pm, officers attended Lynholm Road, Polegate, where three boys were located with two off road motorbikes.

Despite their efforts to make off from police, all three were swiftly arrested and the motorbikes seized, enquiries are ongoing to establish ownership. All three remain in custody.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Marcus Knight from Eastbourne said: “We’re grateful to residents for reporting concerns promptly, which allowed officers to respond quickly and take action”.

“We also extend our thanks to the response team involved for their swift work and support. They were the same team responsible for last week’s pursuit, which resulted in further arrests and the seizure of motorbikes”.

“This policing response forms part of our ongoing work to tackle motorbike-related crime and anti-social behaviour, and to address concerns raised by the community.”

There were a total of 20 arrests made across Wealden last week.

3 drivers were arrested in Hailsham and Buxted, 1 for drink driving, 1 for drug driving and 1 for dangerous driving.

6 individuals were arrested for assault in Uckfield, Hailsham, East Dean, Hartfield and Hellingly.

3 arrests were made for criminal damage in Lower Willingdon, Pevensey and Hailsham.

Other offences included the supply of class B drugs, the production of class A drugs, affray and trespass.
