🎤Working together for Halifax Town Ward🎤
Over the past few weeks, we have continued to work hard on behalf of residents across Halifax Town Ward, here is our update - a bit of a long one!
Alongside our ongoing ward casework, we have been working across a wide range of local priorities — from addressing individual resident concerns to supporting wider plans for regeneration, economic growth and the future of Calderdale, which Cllr Ingle as Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, has been leading on.

🔵 Continuing to push for progress on the long-running Prospect Street issues, including meetings with the Headteacher at St Joseph’s and Council officers to provide updates and keep the work moving forward.
🔵 Supporting the development of Calderdale’s new Local Plan, including a new approach to understanding future housing needs using population, household and postcode data.
🔵Chairing the Inclusive Economy Board, bringing together businesses, colleges, health partners and community organisations to help shape Calderdale’s economic future and create more employment opportunities.
🔵Working on plans to invest around £500,000 of West Yorkshire Combined Authority funding to increase footfall and support the future of Halifax, Todmorden and Elland town centres.
🔵Exploring opportunities to grow Calderdale’s visitor economy, including film and screen production.
🔵Supporting the Queens Road Neighbourhood Centre asset transfer as part of the Halifax Opportunities Trust lottery bid.
🔵Meeting with Homes England to explore new housing opportunities on brownfield sites across Halifax.
🔵Visiting local Calderdale businesses to understand the challenges they face and identify how the Council can provide better support for future growth.
🔵Meeting with West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Cabinet colleagues to discuss bus franchising and opportunities to improve Calderdale’s transport network, including rail infrastructure.
🔵Meeting with Together Housing to discuss its multi-million-pound programme to redevelop 15 tower blocks across Calderdale, including seven within Halifax Town Ward.

Alongside this wider work, we have continued to focus on Ward issues raised directly by residents, including:
🔹 Investigating an HMO enquiry on Bath Street.
🔹 Reporting weeds and requesting cleaning of the pathway leading to Old Lane by KFC.
🔹 Raising concerns about vehicles parking on pavements at Wards End.
🔹 Arranging a meeting with the Wandering Wombles to discuss environmental improvements and community clean-up work.
🔹 Reported overgrown vegetation and weeds on the snicket between Bath Place and Woodside Place.

📍 Halifax Town Ward Update

It’s been a busy few weeks in Halifax Town Ward.

🏘️ Ward Forum

On 7th July, we held our first Halifax Town Ward Forum meeting. It was a useful opportunity to meet local residents and community champions, hear directly about issues across the ward, and start building stronger links in the area.

Several local issues were raised at the meeting, including fly-tipping, overgrown grass and blocked drains. These are being reported to the relevant council teams and followed up.

🤝 Community visits

As part of his ward work, Councillor Shaban also met with the team at St George’s Community Trust in Lee Mount to learn more about the work they do supporting young people, families and local groups.

📹 Town centre CCTV and bollards

He also visited the Community Protection Team, who operate CCTV across the borough, to better understand their work and some of the ongoing issues around the town centre bollards.

🏛️ Overview and Scrutiny

Through the Overview and Scrutiny Committee, Councillor Shaban has also been involved in reviewing Calderdale Council’s finances and discussing the future of the borough’s waste and recycling service, including the planned move from SUEZ to Calderdale Norse.

🗣️ Young people and democracy

Today, Councillor Shaban also attended a meeting with council officers who work with young people across Calderdale. He will be leading a scrutiny item looking at how we can better engage young people in local democracy, including speaking with young people in schools, youth groups, social clubs and those leaving care.

We’ll continue raising local issues, following up casework and making sure Halifax Town Ward has a strong voice inside Calderdale Council.

📢 Your Halifax Town Ward Councillors – First Update

Following some delays getting this page approved by Facebook, we’re pleased to finally be up and running.

Since being elected, we’ve been meeting residents across Boothtown, Lee Mount, Claremount and Halifax town centre, as well as working with council officers, local businesses and community organisations to begin tackling the issues raised most often during the election campaign.

Our current priorities include:

🚧 Pushing for progress on the long-running Prospect Street landslide.

🗑 Tackling litter and fly-tipping issues raised by residents in Lee Mount and across the ward.

👮 Working with Halifax BID, businesses, council officers and other partners to address anti-social behaviour, drug-related issues and cleanliness in Halifax town centre.

🚗 Standing up for motorists by pushing for sensible transport policies and improvements to local roads.

We’re also pleased that Cllr Keith Ingle has been appointed Calderdale Council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration, giving Halifax Town Ward a strong voice in decisions affecting jobs, investment and the future of our town centres.

These priorities reflect the commitments we made during the election campaign: cleaner streets, safer communities, better roads, support for local businesses and putting local residents first.

We’ll continue using this page to keep residents informed about local issues, council decisions and the work being carried out on their behalf.
