🚨🌤️ Uniform Change for Tonight! ⛅️🚨

The sunshine is too good to waste, so we’re switching to a sports night this evening.

Cadets should arrive in sports kit, bring a water bottle, and pop some warm layers in their bag for when it cools down later.

See you tonight for some sports action. ⚽️

Huge congratulations to CI Wright and CWO Woodhead, who successfully completed their Fieldcraft Training Instructor (Restricted) course this weekend at Totley Adventure Training Centre.

They worked incredibly hard across two intensive days, developing the skills needed to teach and assess cadets working towards their Blue Fieldcraft (non‑weapons) syllabus — and we’re delighted to say they both passed.

We’re very proud of their achievement and grateful for the commitment they continue to show to our cadets and squadron. 👏🏻👏🏻

Farewell & Congratulations to FS Dolan and Sgt Caris 👋🏻💐

Tonight we said a proud and heartfelt farewell to two outstanding young people as they completed their cadet service.

⭐ Flight Sergeant Dolan
FS Dolan leaves us as he reaches his 18th birthday, heading off to university where he hopes to continue his RAF journey with the University Air Squadron. Since graduating from ITF, his drill, dress and deportment have been exemplary—setting the standard for others to follow. His rapid rise through the ranks was earned through consistency, discipline, and a genuine commitment to excellence.
One of his standout achievements was leading our Banner Team to victory last year, a moment that reflected both his leadership and his pride in the squadron.

In keeping with a long‑standing tradition brought forward from the OC’s time at 2460 Squadron, Dolan leaves us with a toastie maker—a small gesture of our appreciation and hopefully something that will prove useful in university digs!

⭐ Sergeant Caris
Sgt Caris closes her cadet chapter tonight, but we’re delighted that she isn’t going far. She has chosen to transition to staff as a Civilian Instructor, continuing her hard work and dedication in a new role.

Throughout her time as an SNCO, she has been the quiet engine room of the team—organised, reliable, and consistently effective. Her strength in admin and behind‑the‑scenes leadership has kept the squadron running smoothly, while her confidence in public speaking has represented us superbly at open mornings, OC Conferences, and community events.

We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and grateful for the impact they’ve had on the squadron and its cadets.

FS Dolan and Sgt Caris leave behind a legacy of professionalism, kindness, and service—one heading off to new horizons, the other stepping into a new chapter with us. Thank you for all your hard work!👏🏻

To the Mothers who help our Cadets fly…💐💜✈️

Today we celebrate all the incredible mums, step‑mums, grandmothers, carers and mother figures who support our cadets. Whether it’s the lifts to parade nights, the last minute uniform rescues, the encouragement during challenges, or the quiet support behind the scenes - you play a huge part in everything our young people achieve.

We also want to recognise the remarkable mothers within our organisation, on our squadron staff and Civilian Committee. Balancing family life with volunteering is no small task, and many of you give up precious time with your own families to help guide, mentor and inspire the next generation. Your dedication truly makes a difference.

We know that Mother’s Day can be difficult for some, and our thoughts are with anyone who finds today challenging. You are part of our squadron family, and we hold space for you too.

From everyone at 250 (Halifax) Squadron - thank you, and Happy Mother’s Day. 💜✈️

Shaping the future of 250 Sqn 📈🗣️

Tonight at 250 our cadets took the lead in shaping the future of their squadron.

We ran a full SWOT activity, giving every cadet the chance to reflect on what we do well, what we can improve, and—most importantly—what exciting opportunities they want to see next. The aim was simple: empower them to take ownership of the place they’re proud to belong to.

Across every group, one theme came through loud and clear: the positive atmosphere and the strong relationships between cadets, NCOs and staff.
It’s something they value deeply, and it’s at the heart of what makes our squadron special.

From creative ideas to thoughtful reflections, our young people showed maturity, ambition and a genuine passion for making 250 the best it can be.

Their voices will directly shape our plans for the months ahead, and we are really excited to incorporate many of their suggestions!

Learning from Leaders: Marking International Women’s Day with Catherine Hankinson QPM ✨👮🏼

This week our cadets had the privilege of welcoming Catherine Hankinson QPM, former Deputy Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police, as part of our continued celebrations for International Women’s Day.

Catherine delivered a fascinating session exploring:
🔹 The foundations of modern policing, including the work of Sir Robert Peel and the principle of policing by consent
🔹 The evolution of women in the police service – from early roles as matrons, to becoming fully sworn officers, and the different expectations placed on women until well into the 1970s
🔹 Her own career journey, the realities of policing, and the responsibility officers carry both on and off duty
🔹 The challenges and comments she faced along the way, and how resilience, professionalism, and purpose shaped her path to senior leadership

Her honesty, experience, and commitment to public service offered our young people a powerful insight into leadership, courage, and the impact women continue to make in policing.

A huge thank you to Catherine for giving her time and for helping us mark International Women’s Day with such meaning and inspiration. 👏🏻💜👮🏼

International Women’s Day 2026 🌍💜

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and this year’s theme: “Give to Gain.”

It’s a powerful reminder that generosity — of time, knowledge, support, advocacy, visibility, or opportunity — doesn’t diminish us. It multiplies impact. When women thrive, we all rise.

Across RAFAC, women play a vital role in shaping opportunities, strengthening communities, and inspiring the next generation. At 250 Squadron, we are proud to be an inclusive unit that champions and uplifts the women who contribute to everything we do — our cadets, volunteer staff, Civilian Committee members and parents and carers.

Give to Gain emphasises the power of reciprocity. Whether through mentoring, training, leadership, resources, education, or simply showing up for others, every act of giving helps create a more connected, supportive environment for women and girls. That spirit runs through our organisation and is alive in our Squadron; we see its impact in every activity, event, and achievement.

Thank you to the women of RAFAC — and especially the women of 250 — for everything you give, and everything you help others gain. 💜🙌🏻

Presentation Awards Ceremony & 2025 Review 🏆👏🏻

Over the weekend we gathered in the stunning Halifax Minster for our annual Presentation Awards Ceremony and 2025 Review. It was a privilege to recognise the dedication, progress, and spirit shown by our cadets throughout the past year.

Alongside our traditional squadron awards, we were delighted to present a number of special certificates. Every cadet and member of staff received their 85th Anniversary Certificate, marking this significant milestone in the Air Training Corps’ history. We also took the opportunity to award several certificates already achieved in 2026, celebrating the strong start our cadets have made to the year.

“My sincere thanks go to our staff team, our Civilian Committee, families, supporters, and honoured guests for your continued commitment to the squadron. Your support ensures our young people thrive and our traditions remain strong.
Congratulations to all award recipients—your achievements reflect the very best of 250 (Halifax) Squadron.” - Flt Lt Kirsty Atkins, OC

Cadets Go Interplanetary: Blue Space Course Touches Down at 250 Squadron! 🔭🛰️🪐

Cadets from 250 (Halifax) Squadron and visiting cadets from 1466 Holmfirth Squadron Air Training Corps blasted off into the world of space science over half term as they completed a Blue Space Course.

The day saw cadets dive into hands‑on STEM exploration, including designing and building their own Mars rovers using engineering kits. They worked in teams to problem‑solve, test ideas, and think like real space engineers preparing for missions to the Red Planet.

Alongside the practical challenges, cadets explored key space concepts, discovered how the RAF contributes to space operations, and learned about the future of human and robotic exploration beyond Earth.

A huge well done to every cadet who took part — your curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm were out of this world. And a big thank you to CI Ingleby for delivering such an engaging course, assisted by Cpls Tallon and Simpson.

🚀 Blue Space badges earned. Horizons expanded. Missions accomplished.
